  • BMW Motorrad all set to launch the F650GS

This is official news straight from the Navnit motor guys in Mumbai as well as Bangalore. The good news is BMW are launching the F650GS, with the 798cc engine from the F800GS, in the first phase. The deliveries are going to commence from May this year but due to technical delays with the Indian homologation process( as always!), the motorcycles will be on road by June- July. However, the bookings for the same have commenced and the bike would cost approximately Rs. 10-11L.

However, models like the F800R, F800GS or the F800ST 'may' be launched in the near future, no confirmations for that as yet.

Whatever it is, this is great news indeed. The price tag however could have been a little more competitive especially when you got other major brands pricing their similar bikes spot on. But for its category the F650GS will be a first and leader if not! With 75nm of torque and 71bhp, this baby sure looks all set to rock..be it on road or off road. Time to get the moolah ready

A very good beginners bike...71 bhp on tap, liquid cooled 800cc not bad! wondering what the on road price in Mumbai shall be. What adds novelty is this being a take everywhere bike.

        Bring it on BMW!

I understand BMW commands a premium over the rest of the world, but twice as much?
I guess exclusivity is the name of the game...

Many factors... they are importing the whole piece. I don't think they are even assembling here. Then they are selling through Navneet motors, not directly.

Sad. They must start assembling bikes here

when said costly -- it means cbu comparision only

if an r1 & 1000rr approximately cost the same outside (infact r1 is slightly costlier) than they should be priced similar here but there's a difference of almost 10 L here --why only BMW knows

They did suggest this release earlier: http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/news/203...ry-2012-a.html

But Probably, Its the homologation cost plus, the import mode used that contribute to this price point of 10-11 Lacs.

BMW knows the Ducati 795's price, but they're probably not that serious right now. CBU should remain a preferred mode for few more years I think.

Again, people will be prompted to think what else can they have in 10-11 Lacs. Bandit 1250R which is praised for occasional off roading & sports touring, FZ1 for sporty city/highway riding, Cb1000R for hardcore city riding & stunts.
But no doubt, this F650GS this bike will justify itself better than Suzuki M800 Intruder did, at roughly the same price point.

The beloved Germans may be at a severe handicap when eventually the
800R/GS/ST's hit the market if they dont assemble locally.

Tires F650: Aluminium alloy wheels with 110/80 19 front tyre and 140/80 17 rear tyre
                    Wheelbase F650: 1,575 mm (62.0 in)
                    Dimensions L: 2,280 mm (90 in)
                    W: 890 mm (35 in) including mirrors
                    H: 1,240 mm (49 in) excluding mirrors
                    Seat height F800: 880 mm (35 in)
                    F650: 820 mm (32 in)

                    F650: 179 kg (390 lb) (dry)
                    F650: 199 kg (440 lb) (wet)
Fuel capacity 16 litres (976.4 cu in)

Specwise this bike's tires and front brakes seem the worse among it all, but afterall its focus is Dual Sport so. Tank size is good though!

Model Differences between F800GS and F650GS taken from Wikipedia: Although both bikes have a lot of similarities like the same basic twin cylinder engine and optional ABS system too, there are a number of differences too:

                    1. The F800 produces 85 hp (63 kW), which is 14 hp (10 kW) more power than the F650.
                    2. The F800 is fitted with twin brake discs on the front while the F650 is fitted with just one disc.
                    3. The F800 features spoked wheels with a 21 inch front and 17 rear, while the F650 has cast aluminium alloy wheels with a 19 inch front and 17 rear.
                    4. The standard seat height on the F800 is 880 mm (35 in), compared with 820 mm (32 in) for the F650, which can be further reduced with a low seat and lowered suspension to 765 mm (30.1 in) making it suitable for much shorter riders.

Its the homologation process which makes the beemers end up being costly..something which we will never be able to help!

But, at that price what you are getting is a do-it-all practical bike, and a legendary GS lineage to it. Compare the crop of 800cc's available right now and I guess its actually got no comparison with any to be honest! The 650 is as popular as its elder siblings.

Its well justified as the bookings are already underway and deliveries expected by June.

lol! They had made the announcement before Triumph made theirs! But truly, at this price point the only competition they got is Triumph, who did indicate a price point around the 12L mark. Lets see how it evens out.

But for this price, one really wouldnt mind having a piece of the legendary and rich GS legacy... I wouldnt!

7-8L would have competitive pricing for this!

Sigh! They have killed it with the pricing.! Had high hopes on this one...
