  • New bike or used bike

Hey, I'm buying myself a bike for my b'day. I'm in love with fazer the, but i also know the fact that it's underpowered for touring. So i've planned to buy a used fazer and joel it. Is it a good idea? Because, reliability is my main concern as i'm planning to use it for long time (maybe 5 to 6 years). will it be as reliabile as stock or should i just buy another 150cc new bike? and yeah, my budget is max 80k. (so please don't suggest zma, p220 and all).
Well thanks in advance and help me out.

rather than joel-ing a fazer buy a rtr.
and the question remains why do i race?

I think he wants to buy fazer for the semi fairing looks and wants to make up forlost power by joelling. So in no way will RTR looks appeal to him. Don't go for an used bike just to save few bucks, high maintainence would spoil your fun and chances of finding a well maitained used bike are very dim.

@sayank, i want something reliable and comfortable for touring as i'm quite tall, so rtr is out.
@harish, yeah but the problem is if i buy a new fazer/fz i won't be able for mod is atleast for an year. And i like everything i mean EVERYTHING about fz/fazer except it's power. And i'm not very good at run-in and stuff, i'm a ripper.

I don't see any reason even to ask such questions here!!! If you like Fazer, then go for it; besides you've the money to buy it unless someone has tied you down from buying it. About used or new, its no brainer, if you can't afford for a new one, then go ahead to buy an used one.

Sry to say once again, I don't see any confusion to ask anyone on this!!!

aargee sir, the thing is i have 2 options
                1. Buy a new 150cc bike
                2. Buy a used fazer and mod it. (i personally like this option though)

I just wanted to get expert advise from you guy and wanted to know whether used fazer after modifying will be reliable or not. I mean after big bore kit, will the engine be as good as new?

Well...let me ask you one question, how many Bhp can you pump more out of a stock vehicle? 2-3 Bhp more? And...how good it is on the road? Measured it on Dyno? I'm not advocating against mods, but, if you're getting it done in the form of camshaft, timing, valves (without bigger displacements) then that's more reliable.

Anyway, like I said before, if you've the money, go for a new one, buy peace, it stands strong for next 2-3 years (or 40K kms, discarding years) as bare minimum as rock solid.

well, that's what my parents say but buying a new bike means no mods for maybe a year and for me stock vehicles are so boring (maybe i'm immature). All I want is a pimped out ride with stock reliability . Or should i buy a new bike and mod it say after a month or two? How would it effect the overall reliability? what do you suggest me to do, for my budget is rs80000.

First of all why do you want to mod? More power? I've seen people riding Twister & smoking out even R15's on roads. Modding the vehicle is only 5%, the remaining 95% is on the rider himself. Instead of spending on modding the vehicle, spend it on education. It will help you in long run no matter you ride a Fazer or FZ1.

This is all I got to say, I usually don't poke my nose into thread where people say I've 1L in hand & what should I buy; to me its like going to a hotel & asking the bearer, I've Rs 100 in hand & what should I eat?

All the best if you go for a new or old ride; remember to ride safe & ride hard.

you are saying you are ripper,i don't see any point why aren't you opting for a rtr.
height and reliability are all craps.
and the question remains why do i race?
