Hero MotoCorp working on a high end (250cc) bike.

Summary: Hero MotoCrop should probably unviel a 250cc bike by 2014, a project which is under way and is highly futuristic and well researched. Despite market research still under way, the 250cc prototype is ready and parked on the company's shop floor in Gurgaon, although it can be changed at the last moment (accd. to officials wishing not to be named).

Hero MotoCorp's 125+cc sales have declined by 2% recently. And 250cc segment expanded by 75% this year. Hence, explaining this move.

EBR will provide design inputs while Hero along with AVL will develop this engine. However, experts analyze that Premium customers might not readily purchase a premium bike from Hero. Despite less profitability of this segment for Hero, the other benefits may be technology and brand positioning.

Promising. Only problem is it is another 2 years away from launch, whether it sells or not is another thing, but they have got to start somewhere, no point pulling them down, if Bajaj has succeeded with the pulsar there is no reason why hero cannot do the same.

I wish they shock everyone with an inline4

Ok...so the rumour might be true then; heard HMC is going to launch a new bike with CBR 250R's engine. So this might be it probably.

          Not an OT:

xBhpians these days are not very interested in speculations, it's natural actually considering the overload of useless speculations over the years.. posted below are some of the subject of speculations over the years:
          1. Pulsar 300 cc
          2. Apache 200/220 cc
          3. TVS Taurus
          4. Mahindra Celavo
          5. Yamaha Fazer 250 (Brazilian model)
          6. Yamaha R125 (European model)
          7. Yamaha R25 (Imaginary/Frictional model)
          8. Kawasaki Ninja 250R being available at Rs. 1.5 Lakhs (reported by reputed national publications)
          .....
          ..

Moral: I'll believe if there is an "Official Statement" or if the model is officially launched not even just shown "Mojo" istyle.

Hoping for a cheaper CBR 250R types bike with similar power output...

It will be a little too late but the market will be open nevertheless..I hope they bring in something different on the platter inorder for it to be exciting enough.
Like payeng said, until official confirmation, no use speculating. A bike with CBR 250s engine caught my attention, but considering Hero is trying to separate itself from the Honda tag, it's very unlikely keeping in mind it's long term objective.

This whole article seems to be a rumour and about the bike parked is the biggest rumour. Bike already ready and Hero will wait till 2014 to launch it. BS. Just few days ago they started. I don't see anyone will risk buying Hero's 250cc bike when we are aware of their 'know-how' about bikes.

Very well said Payeng Sir. Add to that TVS Velocity which was even displayed 3-4years ago but never launched.

The article clearly says engine developed by AVL and chasis by EBR so no CBR 250 in this bike. And even if it was it would always be much below CBR 250R no doubt.

P.S. - We shall not go by these unknown, unauthentic sites which spread more rumour than news. We must only follow the well known authentic sites and not these. One must not post these just for the sake of discussion or surprising everyone. It is like spreading rumour ourselves following these sites and posting here.

Even I saw that, but you know we often see such errors, so I've a habit of ignoring them. The persons writing this are either Cagers or non enthusiasts.
Remember, a TV channel saying "Honda is considering bringing its famed R1". Another news saying that "R15 has a better handling than Ninja 250R, which in turn has worse handling than CBR250R"... (were they confusing agility as handling??).

The site does seem reliable, and 4 officials from Hero can't be wrong. Of course, there is a possibility that the bike may never go into production and remain a prototype only.

Its going to be interesting to visit this thread two years later. The only thing I can make out at this moment is, it may be something totally different from what's all being said so far. But if I try to connect the dots, a 250 should be on the card.

Regarding the prototype, one should not read too much into it either, as they are usually models to study the direction they are heading. So the end product would be quiet different form the first prototype. Whether its a rumour or not, I cannot say.

Confusing statement. Using the article to affirm that engine will not be CBR 250. And went on to continue even if was CBR250, it would be below CBR 250 typo?

High possibilities of the bike to have engine from Honda if it is coming this year i.e. 2012 , or if it is coming in 2014 then the engine would not be of Honda as i know the contract is about to provide a support not engine . So no new engine tech would be supplied from Honda for bike coming in 2014 , but may be for bike if coming in 2012 as Hero may have got the engine before & working with design of bike .

In november 2011 , i got some chat with a upper management person for the problems i facing with ASC guys when he was there to inspect & meet the owners who haven't got problems solved after online complaints . I have asked him what would be after 2014 as Honda won't provide any support ? He smiled & replied we already in process of getting some big partners . And also said in next year would be the time of getting some good news .

He then pointed there timeline as

                          2003 - Karizma
                          2006 - Karizma R
                          2009 - Karizma ZMR

& said around diwali of 2012 you would hear some exciting thing if all goes good . Upon asking what that news would be he said let the secret be secret untill the time come .

So as Hero got tied up with EBR , AVL etc so i think half part of that person is proved , waiting for the next half now .
