  • Bike to buy : Hyosung GT 650r or Kawasaki Ninja 650r?

    Hi Friends,

This is my first thread on XBhp.
I want to upgrade to a 600 cc+ bike. Currently, looking from the options of Hyosung GT 650r and Kawasaki Ninja 650r. Need your suggestions on both the bikes.

I know this type of threads are already posted but, they are way too old.So, wanted a fresh review on both the bikes as there 2012 versions are launched.

    Thread Approved and Moved

Welcome to XBHP Eagle Eye! This isn't Team BHP .
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Welcome on board boss. Please edit the red part to XBhp.
Regarding your query, both are very potent bikes, but with the SVC support in mind, I feel that Kwacker takes the lead. You'd not want to spend close to 6L and then wander around looking for spares and service.

Not that Hyosung is bad, its just that its reach is not as widespread as Bajaj's.

first you should think which style like??? is it sports or tourer??? because these both bikes are very different in section apart from 650cc..... so first decide your riding style, your selection would be easy because currently they are the only in their style... parts availability would be a problem for both, as these bikes are still trying to be stable....but the safest money investment would be ninja, due to better marketting by bajaj and their set up.... but still riding style matters alot...

ya right....i had same in mind.
but, know hyosung is backed by DSK which also handles the after sales services for toyota in india, and are doing it greatly.....
so, should i count on them???

            Welcome

Both are Good bikes in their own league .

            GT-R
Very agressive Position which is Just superb on the Highway , Makes u feel you are in control all the Time.
But horrible to use in the city , Just Not practical at all.
Better Ground clearance , Better usable torque available at lower RPM's.
It is Reliable ,i can vouch on that . Im a GTN owner and an ex-GT 250 Owner.
            Great FE.
Service centres are Good , Since Its new . They are Customer centric and Helpful.
Consumables like Oil filters , Pads n cables are always avbl.
            USD Forks .
RUns on normal Pump gas even with 11.6 CR. Higher than Ninja.

            Bads on GTR
            Usual V-Twin Vibes.
            Just Mediocre Braking ability.
Poor Headlights even with Projectors .
            Crude Finishing.
Now comes with a "COmet' STicker.
            Expensive than the NInja .
Spares on Both Bikes will never be stocked in SC . Ordered on Need .

            Ninja 650

            Goods
            Super Build Quality.
            Attractive Color
Kawasaki Brand Value . A Higher Resale Value.
            Tested Reliability.
            Better Braking Ability.
Almost Upright Position , Can munch miles without a Strain on the Back.
            Its more Tourer Friendly.
After market parts are a lot more and Avbl with Ease.
            Decent FE.
            Lesser Vibes.

looks like the riding style for ninja is quite comfortable,
on the contrary the riding style for GT is quite aggressive

Mostly i think buying GT would limit you to some kms only, and if you are thinking on touring it so it should be Ninja which will help you ride it all india tour with comfort.
All people have their choices, some buy and keep it for weekends rides, some buy it for long tours. Remember Sport ride is heavy to ride for long distance. So think wisely and buy!!

its got to be the ninja. there is no comparison between the two. if triumph models were avail i would have given it a second though. else u can also go in for ducati range

This thread is useful to me.

Hyosung GT650R: I would think of this motorcycle if i want to do aggressive sport riding. Which I love. But not for everyday riding. For everyday riding, I have a Dio and a Pulsar 220. The forward stance of a race oriented bike is heavy on the wrists. Suitable for a weekend blast at Lavasa,Pune. I would eventually want to do hardcore cornering on the sportsbike. And hence would go for this. It is safe to buy a Hyosung in Pune because it is based in Pune. If you can live with the vibrations and finish quality.

Kawasaki Ninja 650R: Touring oriented upright riding position. I am not a tourer. I would rather tour in a car. So not to my taste. The only factor that makes me like the bike is the styling. Aggressive supersport styling. With that kind of styling, one thinks of riding it fast and hard. But not possible due to the relaxed riding position. So it is a 2nd option for me. Japanese quality. Enough said.

I too have the same confusion , but I wanted a sports bike feel and that's why I went to both HYOSUNG and NINJA showrooms t have a look . Here is what i feel , of-course its my opinion

                            Hyosung:

-> definitely is big and gives a sports bike feel
-> The salesman confirmed that soon all the parts of the bike will be manufactured in India , so the question of spares is solved
-> gives a top speed of 240 , he showed me a pic which some customer had sent
-> its 6 lakhs on road price
-> has 6 color choices , although I found red and white jaw dropping
-> felt the build quality could have been better . it looks plasticy when u look at the fairing closely , the controls on the handle is too ordinary
-> have two variants of silencers u can customize with hyosung
-> promised will deliver in 21 days
-> a very good chance of price drop if the manufacturing starts in India

                            Ninja :

-> its looks same as 250 ninja , you can only make out if u are an expert in bikes that its the 650 version
-> my big turn off , comes in only one color
-> If you are looking a sports bike aura then this bike is not for you
-> great to ride in Bangalore city roads , very apt for daily commuting
-> I did not like the sound of the bike either.
                            -> great build quality
-> as other people mentioned , resale value is good and service is reliable

                            Final decision taken

-> I have my FZ for commuting , I want a super bike look and feel
->Will go out only on weekends , Hyosung fits my bill perfectly
-> Planning to book in august as my savings are still in progress
->Wait for another 6 months is good as the price may drop , and Honda might release their CBR series or Truimph miraculously finally make it to India and sell their Daytona

The other bikes in this segment are :

                            Available in market :

                            Ducati monster
                            Harley super low
                            Royal en-field

                            Expected to come :

                            CBRR 600
                            Daytona 650 ( expecting from past 2 years )
                            yamaha R6
