  • Clearing Agent for Motorcycle Import

    Hello all

I plan on sending my ZX7R to India and wondering if any of you who have imported a bike can recommend a good clearing agent? If the ZX import goes smoothly, I plan on sending my 996 down as well

    thanks for any help

Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

      What kind of details?

      - shipping from the UAE to mumbai
      - nri owned motorcycle

I plan on sending the 7R first as a test to see how easy or difficult and expensive the process is. If all goes well, I'll bring my other bikes on TR

        Simple details like

how long have you owned these bikes.
are you coming back with a TR (transfer of residence) - though i have my doubts whether one gets to shift his residence to UAE to start with (n transferring it back to india)
how long have you owned these bikes there?

on a different note - if you are coming in via TR - you would need to get both your bikes and all your possessions roughly at the same time
and if you are thinking of just sending the bikes here - then the 7R won't fit the bill since it's capacity is below 800cc

The 7R for around 6 years and the others for around 2 years

What exactly classifies as a transfer of residence? a certificate from the embassy?

I was planning on shipping the 7R as cargo and bringing the others down on TR at a later date

Is there no exception to this rule? what if I owned a classic like the RC30? would i not be allowed to get it simply because its 749cc and despite the fact that its a collectors bike?

          thanks again for your help

          ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

I just read up on the rules regarding TR on the Customs website.

So it seems like any NRI can bring stuff down on TR every two years with no minimum stay in India as that rule has now been abolished. Unfotunately I couldnt find the link which mentions the number of motorcycles allowed per person

Transfer of residence simply means - you are a resident of country A and you are shifting back to India (your motherland)

resident would generally be a person who has that nation's passport/citizenship (if i ain't entirely wrong) but please do check on it.

since the 7R is more than 3 years old - i am not quiet sure whether they would allow you to bring that in in the country.
though few days back i heard some rules have changed regarding importing of a vintage/classic car by paying some 140% duty on it - or was it 180% !!

if you are shifting your residence (TR) - a sub 800 would be allowed with some minor penalties.
n i seriously doubt that there is a rule about number of bikes allowed per person. if not wrong you can bring in one vehicle per adult - but then i really need to dust the old mental data bank regarding these rules - OR maybe invest some good number of hours and go through the entire section of pertaining customs website with all the clauses and sub clauses
