Re: help with buying a used superbike
Well so what is your location??? If Delhi, i do know of a legal and recently done up R6, the best track tool which can even take apart most liter class bikes. And no, I havent turned dealerOriginally posted by The Monk View Post
I just happened to see it being retuned back to pure stock and the dyno clearly showed how it has been rebuilt

i think it will be a tough call my friend.Originally posted by smrsk007 View Posthey whymail! i was a bit skeptical after reading your post regarding the budget. is 7 lacs not enough to fetch me a good deal?
a superbike that is in fairly good condition & which has no major post-purchase work to be carried out, will be, i.m.h.o. in sub-8~9L category.
considering that most superbikes &/or litre-class machines are in 13L+ bracket, they will not depreciate by over 50% even in 5 years since the 1st ownership - hence my apprehension.
it would perhaps be wiser to go in for a peti-pack machine instead that fits ur budget & mind u, 7L is by no means a scrimpy budget - thats a LOT of money man...
just a word of caution - something that i've learned the hard way... if a deal is too good to be true, chances are it is indeed so...
my best wishes for ur mission, my friend!◦ ● 4-wheels move the body... 2-wheels move the soul ● ◦

Re: help with buying a used superbike
With my knowledge of the used superbike market, I can tell you that the least cost for a 07/08 R1 (hard to find out year of manufacture) unless you check closely is about 8.5 lacs (post budget price of everything including the used market has risen, given that a new one is now unreasonably higher). The CBR's and Gixxer's from that year of manufacture unless you get a full DRI clear bike (very few left standing - accidents and what not)Originally posted by whymail View Posti think it will be a tough call my friend.

The only vehicle in that range is the Busa, but the problem with the BUSA's of that era is the same. 99% are accidental, which means they have atleast fairing damage (easily fixable) if you dont mind, but the bigger issue is maintenance. Many guys buy and trade Busa's like pokemon trading cards, so all the ones that I saw and the ones I keep seeing are in really bad states
So you may want to increase your budget just a bit and pick an indian invoice R1, there are a few in the market, as Yamaha had legally launched the R1 in India in 2007. The R6 i mentioned would also cost you a bit above the 7 range, but I was suggesting that since I personally have driven it after its fixes. The thing's mid range acceleration just blew me away.....Also dont forget to bake in the cost of gear and 1st service (1st service for you) into the cost of purchasing one of these machines....
Trust me .... trying to learn the art of cornering one of these beasts on worn out tires will drain you mentally and physically ... i personally have experienced the power of grip on a brand new tire (after a run in period of 100-150 kms of hard riding), so add to that worn brake pads, oil filters, air filters.....Remember the previous owner may have regularly filled it with oil, but not many superbike owners know how to change oil filters which makes it a moot point of changing oil
So hopefully you are now better armed with knowledge for the hunt....And dont be disheartened, I am sure there is one baby out there with you name on it..... Why not go for a new R6 rather than going for a used R1?Originally posted by smrsk007 View Posthello fellow bikers! this is my first post on xbhp! and i want you all to help me out! i have been looking for a sportsbike for quite sometime and i zeroed in on the daytona 675 but as you all know triumph shows no real signs of launching there products anytime soon so i thought i should go for a used legal bike. i have been checking all the sbk classifieds on the net and i havnt come across any reasonable deal as yet. my budget is 7 lacs max and i would prefer an indian billing 08 r1. please help me out guys.

Re: help with buying a used superbike
The R6 is not legally available in India, and importing one also has its problems since it comes into the under 800cc category, so it is a very expensive route and would cost just a 2-3 lacs than a brand new legal R1 which would be easier to register and insureOriginally posted by nitrosatya View PostSure! i absolutely would love to own an r6. but as everyone here states that its not legally available in india and its really hard to come across any clean examples. and i have been advised to stay away from grey market bikes. although a konica minolta cbr at 5.5 is really tempting.Originally posted by RSM2852 View PostWhy not go for a new R6 rather than going for a used R1?
