  • Bike to get Leh'd

Posting this on behalf of a friend

I will be riding to Ladakh this year and need some help in choosing the right bike..

    1. Bullet 350 twinspark (first choice, but in case this isn't possible, the next options)

    2. Hero Hunk

    3. Hero Ambition (will this bike manage the roads and high altitude passes?)

    Thanks

    Query Approved

That is quite a choice from Bullets to Hunks and Ambitions. Do they even produce the ambition any more???

Why don't you tell him to sign up and post his query in this thread. It will be easier than for you to liaison for him

If you don't go for an RE, then the next most apt choice would be Hero Impulse. It will be in its element with off-road tyres. Would recommend 'ol ZMA for 3rd choice

Else, go for a BMW GS or Suzuki Bandit

Without pillion my choices would be Hunk, Ambition and Bullet in that order.

If your friend does take the bullet, do ask him to have hands on experience with basic maintenance and replacement like spark plugs, clutch and accelerator cable apart from ensuring that the bike is utterly reliable.

Any bike can go to Leh. I have seen a discover with two people on board and a huge bedroll, climbing up Chang la.

Although people here have proved that any bike can be taken anywhere, but looking at your choices, I agree that the ZMA would be a preferred option, compared to the Hunk/Ambition.

Atleast from the options..IMO, A hunk should be good choice. Simple & you may not have need to learn any repairs/fixes too.
The Hunk has an option of rear disc brakes & tubeless tyres as well. So much less of worries..
If out of above options, there are many other to select from.

If i may i would still vouch for a ZMA.. They have been proven tourers atleast in xbhp circle. Have good power and a laid back motor with decent top end. plus Hero Motors service centre at every 5-10 kms in every state like Maruti.
