  • want to be a personal cook on lonely trips..

all those who go on long drives , ever tried cookin ur own food or tea or maggi or packed food on burning coals in the middle of no-where?
i intend to do this. the feeling of being lonely in a lonely place , say by a river , and cookin maggi and tea or packed food or even marinated chicken on burnin coal..

how to go abt it? i was thinkin of carryin some coal (small pieces) in a bag. will add wood to it (wont carry the wood obviously).. will also carry a small pan to cook in.. will tk the help of rocks/bricks on which i will keep the pan in which i will cook stuff..

for the fire , will use a small candle.will put some dry leaves/sticks around it. will burn the candle and the leaves/sticks.wen dey start burning , will add coal and small pieces of wood. ofcourse , will hv petrol too, jus in case.. next will put some rocks around the small fire or some bricks.. will make it look somewhat like a stove thing.. i hope u guys r gettin it.. next will keep the pan on top of it and add the contents of maggi/packed food... how does it sound.. sound gr8 to me.. also to give the pan some elevation from the fire , i was thinkin of using that stand (remember in chemistry lab , in school.. )

    ne tips,advices etc..

also carrying the pan, packed food, small bag of coal will be a bit of a prob on the bike. so will attach all this with a rope to the sari guard.. prob solved..

aah... the joys of motorcyclin in himalayas.. by a river.. in the company of nature and a local dog... amazing..

    Aah.. the joy of it!!

I had done something like this but we had a proper stove with us in car... but the burning smell of coal and something as simple as maggi would be a real experience!!

U'd be better off carrying disposable stuff (paper instead of plastic) and if possible bury them in a small mud pile so that they dont litter or flay away (let them decompose)

And something to clean the vessels that u may have (stuff like deep pan).. and take aluminium ones as they are lighter and add more to the cook anywhere charm..

Thats all i can think of right now..

Advice : Use Top ramen CURRY, instead of maggy/maggi.

@john_elim: do they give more average?
or do they act as a "octane enhancer"??

& do they protect the engine (stomach here!)???

              LOL...!!

also keep a pack of aluminium foil .. that'll help a lot in cooking marinated chicken. to get da best flavor for chicken .. roll it in da aluminium foil and cook it in cow-dung-cakes !!

ya ... we have cooked our 'bhutta'/corn... this very way in my uncle's fireplace in his home...!
we wrapped the corn & some grey-sand, freshly brought from Ganga, in Al-foil & then rotated it slowly on the fire for abt 3-4 mins...
man the taste was yummy ..!
actually we saw such a practice quite common in haridwar ...

I've done this on numerous treks....

The best thing to carry are potatoes.....and aluminium foil (can be reused)...

Wrap the potatoes and toss them in a bon-fire....

                      Dance around it ....

Take them out in abt 20 mins....

Voila ! ur potatoes are good to eat.......

I went to a place called waki woods alongwith my dad and uncle when I was in 6th standard{am in TY now}We went on a full moon night and had a nights halt there.Took some coals and my dad{having his roots in our village} lit a fire the caveman way,by rubbing two peculiar stones together and then roasted amazing corn with a good measure of butter thrown in.Slep that night on bedsheets put on stone near the flowing river.Man,was that awesome.Try these simple things guys, and for once kep your mobiles at home....in harmony with nature, its amazing.
