      Hi g_rokz..understood that you have finalised two bikes..if you would post some more info as in why u short listed these two biikes..we would be in a better position to und..
      what your needs are.. you can highlight these points and add acording to your own thinking..:
      1) your run of kilometers
      2) what kind of performance u expect
      3) plus points of bike
      4) negitive points
      5) mileage
      etc etc..

        personal recommendation... Pulsar 200...

        reasons...
        1. pulsars are time tested and they have proved themselves to be the most rugged bike on Indian conditions. where as Yamahas are the entrants.... read the forum on R15 and you will find problems like rusty number plate and broken alloys... well to say they have made ultra light bikes by comprising on the quality front... to get the acceleration and top speed out of low engine capacity... but as such my friend this in Indian condition is not possible... we ride our bikes day in and day out...and not just for track days... we need something rugged.

        2. compare the P200 and FZ16 in front of your eyes.. and you would be able to know that P200 is bigger in size thought FZ16 has got matcho tyres but the biker feeling comes on p200. and as such P200 is not giving after sale problems... Pulsars have a better resale value than FZ16..

        3. MIleage front...both have same mileage more or less... see this doesn't bother me much so maybe I am wrong. varify for yourself... though pulsar 200 gives a mileage of 40-45 and looking at P180 would also be a good option if you are mileage conscious.

        4. too many on roads... yups this is what that annoys me most about pulsars you find them everywhere from roads to gallies to malls... everywhere and then you also find worst of the punks on Pulsars this is even worse... as if pulsar gives 200% confidence to punks.

        5. spares are never a problem when on a pulsar. and so you would easily find a mechanic.

        6. all pulsars look the same... yups I am also trying to find uniqueness in commoness...

        7. pricing... pulsar would cost you... P200=71K and P180= I don't know...62K hopefully.
        FZ16= 69K.

          also apceh rtr carb and efi is also there
          i think rtr carb cost arnd 68-69k whereas efi is slighty xpensive around 73-74k and also look out for r15

                FZ 16 take a test ride of both the bikes and let your priorities decide dont let your mind in decide from heart.
                My opinion is FZ 16 Yamaha's revival is definitely going to do good.

                    yaar,

                    entertainment ho gayi yeh toh. Atleast please let him speak his mind, before we wax eloquent essentially revalidating our own purchases/prejudices. I like both bikes (not ridden FZ16) but wont recommend anything unless we figure what you want.

                    And since ankit ji has written a detailed sorta balanced post, I shall add to his points here:
                    1. Nonsense really. Yammies have been around long enough. The fit and finish on P200 is not even comparable to yammies. Plus BAL cost cutting is insane. Take a simple example. P180 v2 (white alloys) came with transparent glass window for disc brake fluid. KBX(?) made it and the top portion except callipers came for 650 - now Endurance(?) makes it and the whole assembly except the disc is some 800 bucks. I am currently traveling, but can verify the same within a coupla weeks - or u can pm popsha. That said, the P200 engine is fantastic. No two ways about it. But ask anyone whose opened up the engine (santoosh) about the thickness of p180classic valves (5.5mm) versus DTSi onwards (4.5mm?). BAL makes great VFM products, but to assume Yammie isnt rugged is umm a load of what comes from the rearside of a horse. No one's black/white.

                    2. I am lost. How does a few mm more on P200 give the "biker feeling"? And resale? please - even if it is. at max about 5-10k (worst case) in 2-3 years? By which time, you'll be earning and that amount won't matter much. Bikes are as much a decision of the heart!

                    4/6. Agree. FZ16 is quite a headturner.

                    5. Most motorcycles should not pain you much within 40-50k. That's more than enough a city rider would do in many many years. But yes, spares would be a question. I'd let the Glady guys respond. I see quite many R15s as much as I see Gladys. FZ16 should do well.

                    7. Like he said - irrelevant

                    Net to net, its about what YOUR heart tells you - so please listen to that.

                      hi,

                      I posted the blog not for Gulshan's decision but for discussing the two bikes with my fellow bikers.
                      now its no more a Gulshan's buying decision...
                      see its a long time discussion, as to which one is the best.
                      first of all quiet surprised to read the above post from a boy who himself is using a pulsar 180 from 2005. maybe one of the unsatisfied customer.
                      but anyways. no personal offense. people have their opinion.

                      Yamaha= I want to tell you how much big Yamaha fan I am. my friends say that this guy could sell his kidneys to buy an R1( though I would never commit anything so insane.). but truly I liked R1( 2002 edition because of its sleak lines of design) then I kept admiring R1(2004 edition because it was one of the most radical design... none other where anywhere close to designing of r1 and it delivered amazing on road power delivery) I was just reading about these(never ridden though) and then came r1(2007 edition again an amazing bike with 180bhps. what else could a dreamer ask for... during those days I fortunately got a ride of r1(2004 edition after much cajoling my friend and then I realized that Yamaha are a genre of their own...love was further deepened.

                      I was really amazed that Yamaha are the ones that they can't be beaten easily and then further to my admiration came R1( 2009 edition) oops this is one more most accomplished design. I can't imagine anything anywhere close to even this...Yamaha are the CULT of bike making. YES, THEY ARE.

                      now lets come back to the topic...
                      Yamaha are the best world over and they have a world champion Rossi.

                      but when in INdia they have given us this....

                      * Crux
                      * Crux S
                      * Fazer (yah that same house fly eyed lamp .. oH... should I call this also radical) HUmmmm its radical(+vely) but nobody finds it tempting, sadly.
                      * Alba (105cc what 5cc is more than a 5 rupee note.)
                      * Gladiator (some auto journals claimed that it gives the feeling of riding a superbike...!!! I am very simian minded that I could not comprehend this statement of... HOW...?

                      * Gladiator RS and SS... another in the theme...

                      and then when we all were expecting the R15 to be somewhat 200-250cc we got to know that this is 150(at the autoexpo) and then when we all were speculating that this machine is going to be mean with 20-22bhp we got to know its another kid from kindergarten with 17bhp.
                      we speculated a healthy price of 90K (on xbhp itself) for 22bhp for this bike by public voting. but to the amusement it is 1.1lakhs for 17bhp...

                      how fast it goes and performs lets not get into that....

                      but let me tell you guys... I was saving 90K for this bike and was about to withdraw my savings to run to Yamaha showrooms but then idea struck lets wait for ninja...

                      soon later problems started...

                      *one bike found entirely burnt after catching fire in parking... search the internet for those pics and you would get to know.(if those pics are not fournd tell me, I'll post those..

                      * alloys breaking.
                      * rust on the front number plate holder... this got discovered soon... later what will come out of discovery we are fingers crossed.

                      and we know not 6months have passed after the launch of this Yamaha.
                      rightnow I am listening tainted love--Marlyn Manson yups my love for Yamaha is getting tainted...

                      I am a very abusive biker to be called a biker... and the way I treat my bike I'm sure nobody does it. You all are great bikers to decide for yourself.
                      NOw I am not discussing which bike for Gulshan I think I am getting to get the best rugged bike...

                      If going in for another bike soon is on cards I'll definitely go for a bigger pulsar provide it is as rugged as my present pulsie.

                      as far as FZ 16 and Pulsar 200s go...
                      consider a situation: if the pulsars have not been launched somewhere in 2001 but in Sept 2008 would we had been having the same opinion...?

                      Much has already been said.. ... Indicatively.

                        Really?? It's too bad the server crashed because, why the R15 caught fire was on the R15 ownership thread. You seem to have missed it, or suffer from selective amnesia.

                        Alloys breaking? How comparable can this be to front forks breaking? And the alloy which broke hasn't even been cross verified yet.. why are you raising such a hue and cry in every thread that mentions the word "R15"? And it was ONE bike.. reported on ORKUT.

                        That's an interesting thought. If Pulsars (150) had been launched after bikes like Unicorn, RTR160, and FZ16, then I know what I'd go for. Your guess is my thought.

                          Hold on guys,
                          Most of us don't know that the bike feels like when ridden.

                          @thread starter,
                          Take a test ride and decide...

                          but when in INdia they have given us this....

                          * Crux
                          * Crux S
                          * Fazer (yah that same house fly eyed lamp .. oH... should I call this also radical) HUmmmm its radical(+vely) but nobody finds it tempting, sadly.
                          * Alba (105cc what 5cc is more than a 5 rupee note.)

                          * alloys breaking.

                          Dude,
                          Most pulsars are selling because of "BHED CHHAL"(A HINDI WORD), and not because they have anything which makes them stand out(except for sheer numbers)...
                          They don't offer least little bit of ride satisfaction.

                          As of alba and all,
                          All the bikes were at par with competition(if not better).
                          They did not sell because no one knew(neither anyone expect) YAMAHA as a commuter bike manufacturer.
                          If Not Us Bikers,

                          Who The HELL Would "THE WORLD" Envy..!

                            Test ride both of them and see which one is good for you. If both bikes were similar there would be a problem in deciding. since one is 14PS and other is 18PS i guess it would be easier for you to make out which one is good for you once you take a testride.

                            Also get in touch with someone in your area who owns a yamaha and see if they offer you good service. Aftersales in my area is pathetic. Bajaj would be comparatively better i guess.

                              and the massive tank most adorned by we Indians.

                              and least of them were smooth in handling...

                              but still we can't deny ... bike kee kitni bhi maar lo... magar complain nahin karti...

                              and who washes and cares his bike when you are already 15mins late for your destination...
                              we always keep procrastinating all our jobs... whos got time for the bike.
                              .
                              hope Yamaha gives good products now.
