  • How do you save your shoes? (Toe-only gear shift lever)

I don't race, I don't perform stunts, I don't cut across lanes and/ or cut other vehicles, I love to wear my helmet and follow traffic rules/ laws and I prefer safety over surprise... If that is boring and/ or sissy as per you, so be it.

You can protect your shoes from getting dirty by cleaning the gear shifter every morning before you ride. Besides the shoes get damaged if the gearshift is hard. New bikes FZ 16, R15 or the Apache RTR have relatively soft gearshift which doesnot damage the shoes so much it only makes them dirty.
Never upgrade without getting your basics RIGHT.

Use a duct tape or something similar cello tape?? and wrap it around the toe shifter! that's the only way to save ur shoes.. i have similar problems on my disco.. my old shoe was bout to get a hole where i used to shift gears regularly as i never use the heel shifter!

If I am actively riding outside Mumbai I have to buy new shoes every 6 months.

there's this sponge based housing generally seen in the A/C housing of the car....
get ur hands on that, you can cover the round tip of the lever with that,it's black in colour and won't be damaging ur NIKE"S or REEBOK's!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds good, I'll see if I can get my hands on what you suggest and if it works out. Buying new shoes every 3-4 months is pointless when good shoes cost around 5,000/- a pair

My shoes survived over months. I Ride a Suzuki Shogun, i use toe only shifting and i shift gears very often. My shoes are made out of leather. Zero damage caused to the shoe. The best part is, it costs just about 2k.

i ride an RTR and that too has only a toe shifter. but i have noticed that nothing has happened to my leather office shoe after 9 months, however there is a slight discoloration on casual shoe like woodlands and such, but no damage.

I bet a few on this forum have overcome the problem being discussed here and are yet to read this thread... Hoping they post here soon.

Is this thread about how to protect shoes or how to buy new shoes?

No it wont lose grip... use the black tape that electricians use! and wrap a good amount of it around the toe shifter.. it'll hold just fine!. need be if its a metal shifter then get a rubber grip of any indian bike which has a rubber-covering over the toe-shifter... but even that wont save so wrapping a duct-tape is the best option to save ur shoes... unless u have enough moolah to buy expensive riding shoes.. or ones that wont wear out like this.

if u feel the tape would lose grip remove the old one and re-wrap it! simple!

for day to day riding u know wat u can do now
