  • Need to buy a good scooter/bike

I need to buy a scooter/bike. I don't have any bike/scoot in mind as of now.

My usage will predominantly, be in city and that too very limited i.e. 200-300kms per month. Will be used basically for commuting and to some extent for a some short city biking.

Main things I would like to have:

    1) Nearly 0 maintenance. Good servicing available.
    2) Decent max speed - ~80-90kmph w.o. shakes
    3) Good enough (at least 45) city avg
    4) Easy to control in the worst possible traffic
    5) Good looks
    6) Shouldn't look cheap

I don't have any cap on the budget but in general wouldn't like to go over 70k.
    Things which don't matter:
    1) gear/no gear
    2) scoot/bike

I have too many things in mind w.o. any comparison b/w those. Listing here in their category, please suggest best in the respective ones with pros and cons. (I do not have much of exposure to honda/hero honda's/... new bikes and their performances, so those are missing)

Access125/Activa/Pleasure (Blade or any new good one if available)
    XCD125(w or w.o. sprint)
-- both of these are in the same price range, i suppose.

    FZ16/RTR160/GS150R
-- I can also go for a 2nd hand if I get a really good deal(is that advisable?)

Pissed off of the wait times for FZ16(1month in BLR as told to me), GS150R(In jan only) and Access 125(50-75days)

This will be my first owned bike though I had ridden 4s Champion, Suzuki 100MaxR, Splendor in the past.

If you want immediate delivery - with 0% Maintenance............

I WOuld predict any 125cc bike for city riding and some 100km ridings.....

Go for any HH or TVS Product...........

      HH Passion plus........

      Or

TVS Flame..........will be a good choice.....

If you dare to wait for few days and if you are a teenage person go for Stunner.......

The honda stunner seems to be filling in you requirements, take a look

        Honda

Again, Iam partial to motorcycles so not considering scooters at all. But this is one option which you can check out. An RTR or something in that range wil be waste of power with someone who wishes to go a max of 80-90 kmph.

Oh, if you have'nt done any riding with geared vehicles then I'd recommend this bike only after you're good at your craft. Please don't learn on a new bike

I may not be that expert as there are many on this forum, but I did bike a lot on Suzuki MaxR, 4s Champion and Splendor.

Thanks for the quick suggestions, but I don't seem to like that delta shapes in the front of Stunner -- waste of designing.

One more question: It seems guys here don't like Bajaj bikes, is that so and why? Just for my curiosity.

One more question: how about Apache RTR 160 (w.o. FI) as compared to other bike in the segment. I am getting a Good deal for this bike. How bad/good is it as compared to latest EFI model?

              Thanks.

                  Thanks puneet!!

No offense but I don't like looks of both Stunner and Flame.

Moreover there is no Bajaj bike in recommendations? Are those bad or have an obvious problem?

Pulsars have become common have not been updated recently .it has nothing unique [but still a good bike ] .
Apache RTR/fi - performance ,looks ,gadgetry ,Fi, rear disks
Fz 16 -tyres n looks ,torque
Gsr 150-Nice looking sppedo n rear leds , 6 Gears

                    Pulsar

^^^ I see that you have listed bajaj xcd as one of your choices. Logically, Honda Stunner would be anytime better than this. Both in terms of looks and performance. Personally, it surprising that you dont like the looks of Stunner. Even then, if you dont like how Stunner looks then you should curse xcd for the same!!!

                        Thanks man .. cool reply.

So far I got inclined towards FZ16, RTR and somewhat GS150. FZ/GS150 have long wait times o.w. I'd have booked FZ. Now it comes to RTR, and I have confusion here:

                        1) There are 3 models listed on the TVS site: RTR 160 FI, RTR 160 and RTR 160 refresh. What are differences among these?

                        2) I read on the same forum about the tyre quality of RTR which is not as good as other bikes in the segment, is that so? Are they really bad?

                        3) Getting a deal of 1 year old RTR 160. Is it a wise decision to go for this bike and what are the things I should check in that before buying it?

                        Thanks,
                        Saurabh

True, but XCD design is more conventional and I can digest those. But in stunner I find design awkward and too loud (as in a loud actor ). I find it overdesign. Flame is better than that but still an outlier.

I like more conventional naked bike, that's why liked FZ 16 on the first look at it, though GS150R is too generic with not even a single thing outstanding.

Frankly, FZ16 is equally loud if you look at it!!! However, I would suggest you take a look at Stunner with only all black color scheme, that should be more easy on your eye if that is what you mean

Please don't compare FZ with Stunner on the design .. FZ's design is the best in the market.
Problem with the stunner is that trianlge shape, useful for nothing, part which I don't like even in all Black version, can I but it with that part removed ??

Moreover, all black is available in Self+Drum only.
