How many Superbikes are there in India?

Can you give me a rough figure as t o how many superbikes might there be in total in India and in the following cities:
    • Delhi
    • Mumbai
    • Bangalore
    • Pune
    • Chennai
    • Hyderabad
    • Kolkatta

Indeed a simple sounding question, but come to think of it, its pretty hard.

thats a hard one bhaiya...its easy to get a hold of the number of the 'official' ones..but with so many small dealers lurking about everywhere(atleast in delhi)..its tough calculating the number.
but im sure there are approximately 11-12 in lajpat ngr 1,2,3,4 combined and about 5-6 in kailash colony.
    No Nonsense Biker.

Counting bikes from 1995 onwards, around 1500. Adding about 1 bike a day nowadays.

City-wise can be anyone's guess. Who knows how many are garage queens, or broken down into parts, impounded, scrapped etc. But I'd bet Bangalore would lead the count, with Mumbai and Delhi very close behind.

+1 , I got to know from a source that mumbai importers bring 30-50 bikes a month on an average.

we can expect 1500 to 2000 bikes.

Its easy to answer this question in regards to Kolkata.

There is a single Busa, and a pretty old Kawaski ZX6R here on the roads. There used to be a old Hornet 600 too at one point, but I heard that its pretty banged up now, so doesnt take to the roads. Thats about it, as far as my knowledge goes. Any other Kolkatans with more specific knowledge, please share.

Oh yeah, as per hearsay...I've heard that 2 R1's have also been purchased, but dont know anything more.

Any particular purpose of this thread Sunny???

I always knew that Kolkata for sure would be having the least number of superbikes but just 2 is simply pathetic (barring the supposedly 2 legal R1s)..
                        :)

Yes Aryan, it truly is pathetic. But on the contrary, it's got a probable brighter side as well. Knowing that when I do end up getting one myself, it will be a lot more exclusive on the streets than in some of the other metros which have a much larger number of SBK's.

On a more serious note, the roads here can easily be a death-trap for any Superbiker, unless the rider is extremely mature and trained. I'm sure if the roads here were anywhere near to roads in Delhi, we'd probably see many more powerful bikes.

Then again, it might have a lot to do with the mindset of the people with the purchasing power. It's true that there are a whole lot of people here can buy a SBK outright with cash, but that can only happen in 2 instances. Firstly, they have to be passionate about performance bikes to an extent. Secondly, they have to have the mindset in believing that it's worth buying a Rs. 12 Lac 2-wheeler over a Rs.12 Lac premium 4-wheeler. This is something which is missing here.

As for the rest, they have the desire, but not the means.

I guess that sums up Kolkata. As of now, I simply pray for much better roads here, and that will definitely brighten things up. The process of improving roads has begun, but even then, its far from desirable in a metro city like Kolkata.

Dreambikes people once said they sell 20-25 bikes all over India in a month!
And that was when Dhoom 2 was released!
                            So 200 bikes a year?

And there are 5 dealers i know in Pune.

So 1000 is quite an easy estimate in Pune.I think Mumbai must have largest no. of sbks followed by Bangalore and then Pune.Don't know what the scene is in Delhi.

And the most sighted bike must be CBR600RR.

But what is the point of this thread?
