  • [Photo Feature]: Been to Andamans Havelock Islands-28 kms to&fro on Activa

No to raise brows, I went to witness the so called Heaven in India, and to surprise it was true after I spent 5 nights in Havelock Islands, Andamans.

Its an undiscovered, untouched forested island which I can vote to be actually called as heaven right here in India after visiting many international destinations.

Oh, I will really be waiting to see more. I loved the Andamans. But I have not been to Havelock. Just did Joly Buoy and Naughty Girl islands and did quite a bit of snorkelling. Definitely no biking then. Have GREAT memories of underwater sea life.
The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

Now thats mean!.. It took me more time to type the text than to take pictures. U'll have to bear with me.
Port Blair is a proper city and u may not find it so much interesting.
Havelock is a 3 hour ferry from Portblair and is a completely different world altogether....
My first log is almost done, gimme a moment please ! (sounds like savage garden song )

Bike ride??? Yes if u accept it for 28kms to and fro as a part of 2000+ kms journey..
After getting my marital status changed (I mean I got married and not the other way), I thought of making my future plans in beach sides..

Did a research and found maldives/seychelles/mauritius as the options. Planned for maldives earlier, but given my budget and food preference I was gonna have tough time there. Researched again and got to know about a place called as Havelock Islands in Andamans territory.

Beaches on Havelock(Radhanagar Beach) has received The Best Beach in Asia Award from Time magazone,London. I wanted to know why. The place is in India so the no problem of food. Given my budget I could have stayed for more days in 5star accomodation. Booked the tickets in our sexy(in all means) Kingfisher airlines, blocked Sea facing cottage in Silversand Resort,Havelock and I was done!
So the third day from my wedding reception...

                .. I packed my bags ..

.. and boarded the blue converted red Kingfisher flight from Ranchi to Kolkata. The take off and landing of this 40 seater Airbus will make u hold ur balls coming out from your mouth, I had to apply more pressure as I was about to start a family (pun here) ..
I had a transit in Kolkata and the flight to Port blair was scheduled next day.
Ok here's a note for u guys- If you have a transit in kolkata then u can get a Deluxe AC room in Airport Complex on a throwaway tariff of 1000 bucks. U need to talk to the airport manager, show him the inward boarding pass and outgoing tickets ,thats it!.
I did the same after getting a shock when I checked room of 'Hotel White Palace'.This hotel was stinking like phenyl and the room had a strucuture similar to the one's u see cheap Indian blue films .. I ran back to Airport and to learn about Airport complex deluxe room.
Next day I reached Port blair at 11.30 AM. The place seems to be untouched by the effect of arrogant behavior, theft, insecurity, rush, traffic jams etc. People are very sweet, weather is ultimate, clean and free of rush.
I checked into Hotel Megapode Nest which is run A&N tourism deptt. The sea facing room was an ultimate experience.. And the food made me forget about my bulging tummy ..
This was the view from my room

                It was facing the Port..

                The view at night

I knew there was something big awaited, So i charged up the batteries, loaded my lovely D40 with a new 4GB and I was all set to click..

(I must thank my wife for her never-ending patience)

                The real story begins ..

I had to take a ferry to Havelock Island next day at 6AM.

This was the first cruise in my life. Excitement stayed for first 15 minutes of the cruise, rest 3 hours I spent in negotiating sea sickness and sleeping. The journey was boring too.

Reached Havelock Jetty at 11.30 AM. The view was kinda surprising, mesmerising etc. (no words to explain). There were more foreigners than Indians in that under-civilized village (with Airtel/BSNL network) .
It was a small forest village kind with a 5 ft wide road running on the sides of Islands parallel to the surrounding beach. The inside of Island had few resorts apart from dense forest.
I was more than happy and felt really important when I saw my name printed over a placard holded by a neat dressed chauffer. We boarded the awkward pink coloured Silversand bus and headed somewhere inside the jungle.
The road was too narrow to ovetake, inspite the driver maintained an impressing 30kmph max.
I saw a Wild Orchid resort on the way which was mentioned by my friend, it was full of husky cottages (called as deluxe suite).
In 15 minutes I was cheking-in in my resort which had half dozen of cottages made in a surrounding campus of 5 acres. Our resort was facing the Vijaynagar Beach which was hardly 50 steps away from my cottage.
                The reception lounge

                the campus.

And my habitat for next three nights

I was glad to find such a cottage for the first time in my life, it was made of redwood in and out and it gave a fresh natural wood fragrance moment we entered inside.
The suite had an attached bathroom called as 'Open Air'.
It was an amazing piece of surrounding to see. While answering nature call for the first time I remembered my village long ago when we(males) had to rush to the nearby fields if the rest-room was occupied, An 'Open' feeling.
I took some time to get accustomed.
                here is the view

                (pardon the boxer in background)

                .... the story continues

What did the placard read? "Speed Pujari"?

Edit: Oh yes, I forgot the congratulations bit! I got carried away by your mesmerizing text. Congratulations for getting your marital status changed.
