Malshej Cleanup G2G, 11th Jan (Mumbai - Pune)

Malshej is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited. Ive frequently visit the lake on the foothills on the mountain, but some recent activities there are quite disturbing. f ppl have see "Rab Ne Bana De Jodi", the song in which there is a lake was shot at malshej. If u remember from tht song there is white temple in the scene, this was a set made of POP. Due to the carelessness of the production house, the set was not disposed properly. The remains of the set are scattered all over the place and the small POP particles mix in the water of the lake and thus polute it. Ive been to the lake two time & its the white ashes of POP present there jst make the place look pathetic.

I guess itz time tht we all come together & clean this mess. We need to do this so tht tomm we have some places left to visit. I would really appreciate if ppl are willin to help clean up the place .

Also we can have a small gyan session on Leaning & Bending on the roads ahead of Malshej Ghat.

    Pre-requisites

    1) Every biker should carry the following papers:
    a. RC Book copy
    b. Insurance Policy copy (valid)
    c. PUC Certificate (valid)
    d. Driving Licence (original)

(These documents will be checked before we leave for the ride, please do not fail to miss out on any of them)

    2) Things to carry with you:
    a. Toolkit
    b. Bottle of water
    c. Tubeless puncture kit (incase you are rolling on tubeless tyres)
    d. Extra cash of about Rs.500 for yourself incase of any emergency

    3) Riding gear:
    a. Helmet (ISI/DOT/ECE approved) (rider and pillion both)
    b. Full-sleeve Jacket (preferabley a riding jacket or a rainy jacket/
    windcheater)
    c. Gloves (Itz very cold out there)
    d. Full length pants (jeans or trousers.... no flesh should be seen)
    e. Boots/Shoes (no chappals or floaters)

Fuel costs should not exceed Rs.300, considering a distance of 200km (approx) and milage of 40kmpl (approx). If possible please fuel up your bikes while you reach the final meetup point.

Riding Guidelines (to be strictly followed)

    1) Both Mumbai and Pune formations will be led by a person each. All riders need to be in the in-line formation. Formation Leaders will be announced a day before the ride.
    2) While riding in a formation, each rider is supposed to "follow tail" at a safe distance. Cruisin speed on the highway would be between 80-85 km/hr. Anyone who does not wish to stick to this can stay out of this meet.
    3) A distance of at least 2 seconds has to be maintained between two riders. How to measure this will be told at the meetin point.
    4) All new people on the ride need to follow the formation in a position that is allocated to them by the leader
    5) Since the ride is a one-day ride, all participants are requested to honour time. All participants are requested to arrive at the meetin point at least 10 minutes earlier. The convoy will wait for no longer than 15 minutes post the announced time.
    6) Riders who will not follow the group rules will be warned the first time round and in case the same thing is repeated, he would be disallowed from attending any xBhp group rides.
    7) All are requested to co-operate and co-ordinate for making this ride a success.
    8) No exchange of bike on the ghats, for what so ever reason.

    Note:
Ridding plans and riders list will be posted after in a few days. Please post your confirmations here. Also would like some suggestions on how to dispose the waste material.

    Riders list:

Nice initiative, but I haven't understood how you'd manage to filter out the POP from the lake. More details on that would be instructive

Instead, can we find a way to take alot of pics (mumbai photostudios, listening??), make a good media ruckus out of it, and ensure that the producers who have made tens of crores out of the movie pay back.

Its a good thing you are doing, but its just as important to shame them into understanding their full responsibility, no?

I am 99% (or like spiderweb says 70%) in, dont know when my college starts.

Have a strange feeling that the saddies in my college will start it from that sunday only!

BTW one Question... How are we cleaning it up?
I am writing to a friend @ Star to help us with it. We can post it in YouTUbe and spread the details on mass mailing lists and forwards.

I can manage the communication\technology bit, whether or not I get to ride!

                    Cheers!

The POP is not inside the lake but on the road leading to the lake and on the grass around. We cannot do nothing of the POP tht entered the lake.

You need to catch the mumbai agra highway & take right at kalyan phata. Head to murad from there, malshej is about 50km more. For ppl who dont knw the route, will try to post the route map.

Will try leave by 4.00 as everyone wants to be at home ASAP. But if you guys have enough time itz recommended tht we wate at the lake till the sunsets, ull love it .

Im planning tht we take as many saddle bags & the tools tht r used to mix cement n all. We can break the large chunks of POP and put them in plastic bags pack them in the saddle bags & dispose them at a proper location at our respective cities.

Im try to rope in a car so tht the debris can be carried away easily, lets see. But if thts not the case saddle bags are the only option tht we have .

We have three saddle bags from mumbai. Marcus, Anup (I hope he will lend it) & Shiva. I guess we would require two more. But itz always better to have some extra space.

There is not much waste left over there yaaar. Mother nature has consumed most of it as always, so we would not require a goods carrier. Thx for the sponsorship .
