• It's 100 percent - Got the ZMA!

i din't know whether to start a new thread. I'm planning to buy a new bike within a fortnight or so and was a bit confused

1. My budget is 1 lakh, but I’ll be more than happy to save and not spend all of it
2. I just don’t want TVS or Suzuki Bikes
3. I’ve test driven Stunner, Pulsar 150, FZ 16, Karizma, R 15, HH Hunk. I loved the looks of FZ and Hunk. R15 and Karizma blew my mind away! Stunner and Pulsar were rejected at this stage
4. Friends say FZ 16 is the best buy right now and R15 is an overkill for city riding, and not much specs for its price I feel. Karizma too is praised a lot by friends and colleagues - it has a “Honda engine” and “HH brand” associated. Now i've narrowed down my choices to FZ 16 and the Karizma.
5. FZ and Karizma mileage is similar more or less. 35 - 40 kmpl
6. HH is the market leader, and Yamaha has gr8 ambitions and plans for a good growth in 09 and 2010
7. I like the FZ fat tire and naked styling a bit more than the Karizma’s fairing.

So it’s a 50 50 between the Karizma and FZ

The price here of
1. Karizma - 76257 on road
2. FZ - 69897 on road

So now I'm a bit confused. pls help me out. I’m a little inclined towards FZ cos of it's 'new' factor and looks, but to be very frank, I feel Karizma is more Value for my money.

Or if my analysis has gone wrong somewhere above, pls suggest otherwise!

Apart from its amazing fat ass looks, FZ is nowhere close to Karizma. If you want a good city bike with amazing handling, go for FZ. You can save some bucks.

Performance wise, karizma wins handsdown. If you are expecting this, just go and buy Karizma. You will not regret.

I was also compelled by the FZ looks and tried once. Later felt, it is never close to Karizma in performance. Thought I would better stick to Karizma.

What kind of usage do you have? City or touring? Karizma is good for both. FZ might feel a bit underpowered while touring.

Raghav, I would second the opinion of Ravi and R15rocks.

Though the zma can handle city use, I would say the Fz16 is more able in this respect. The bike is more nimbler and the clutch is very light! It feels very light and flickable in traffic and has good low end grunt.
But thats about it, if you are looking at long distance trips or power, and weigh that over the butch naked looks of the Fz, its the Zma anyday, it is worth the 6k premium over the Fz.

I would suggest Karizma. Tried, tested, Honda associated with the name, reliable, comfortable, great pickup, good top end, touring & city riding capabilities.

FZ is a good looking bike with both touring and city riding capabilities. The only thing to be apprehensive about is the performance.

Finally, it is your decision. Go what your heart wants. Whenever there is a battle between Heart and Mind...always listen to the heart. If your heart beats for FZ, go for FZ. It is the rider, afterall, that matters .

Raghav please tell us the kinda riding you do. For touring ZMA is the best bike available in Indian market today. For city riding FZ is better, easy to handle.

I don't buy the 'for city riding the FZ16 is better'.. cos' Karizma is equally good for city riding too, refined, power from low up, good handling. The size could be an issue at first, but only till you get used to it.

the only reason you should go for the FZ16 is if you really want its looks, other than that the zma is (like you say)more VFM .

Dude for traffic the FZ16 is great but once you hit the highways, the Zma will just cream the FZ16. Will you ride in traffic always? If yes, get a Honda Dio.

Coming to the flickability stuff , the ZMA also is pretty nimble and flickable once you get the hang of it.

Heck I ride an LB500 and lotsa people told me stuff about riding issues in Hosur Road peak hour traffic. My bullet handles beautiful though I need to be pretty involved. Im loving each moment. For a week, my bike was almost physical and tiring. Once my body got used to the bike, riding it, torqing rather, is a veritable breeze. Trust me on this. GO for the ZMA.

Hey i'm a n00b in xBhp and am really amazed and thankful at the amount and extent to which you guys have tried to resolve my confusion.

Even my heart says Karizma.

As to what kind of usage - almost 90% city driving only. I'm not planning any tours on 2 wheels any time soon. Also, i intend to own n use the bike, like FOREVER, if it can stay i.e. No immediate plans to upgrade as soon as the next fancy full fairing FI ABS bike is launched.

But wth, I won't lie to myself, I'd deftly want to rip the bike more than once in a while on the highway...

and bothe highway performance and mileage (@ 90kmph for instance) of fz is even worse than zma!!

And again as I quote some1 who quoted me , at just a 7K premium, i feel zma is anyday more VFM than FZ as I see it.

I'm confused cos zma is a 5 yr old model now. and fz has the 'new' buzz going about it.

also, do all zma's have some chain noise problem? i don't see any well maintained 20K plus zma without chain noise

@raghav: how tall are you btw? and how good are you with bikes?
i might sound naive but there is a lot more of you to look into before buying a ride.
a good rider is but rider+machine. and if one is good for the other then not so true should be with you.

i have always personally felt that there should be a set of questions to define the one in need of the bike and the requirements. that way, the person would be much more satisfied and informed with his newly acquired ride. my 2 pncs...

Here is getting things to the basic

Fz with all its new looks .. sure would turn heads around ! .. I tested both of them .......... Traffic you need to get used to riding the bikes .. Fz would zip anyways with lower rpm ......... when the roads open up .. when u dont see the end .. when u wanna rave the engine up to higher speeds .. Fz would sure put u in the back seat .. more over .. seats arent comfortable either for a longer rides ... Pillion would shout at you anyways ... hah Coming to Zma though its been here for a while and looks older on roads .. heads stil turn ..... cos of charming Karizma ..... Takes a bit time to get used to in city traffice .. 1 or 2 days at max .. if u have that fear factor with the new bike ! after that ...... u own the road ! ..... maintainence free bike ! u can zip pass the traffic cruze on the road when its inviting ! and you wont ask for more(though needs some mod to pull over 130kph) ! trust me .. Tours / City / Rural / Urban Whatever the road is .. The pleasure you get from the ride is just awesome ....... afterall its not the new looks that matter ! Its the pleasure of riding in all conditions ! Where nothing beats the ZMA till date by Indian manufacturers considering the package as a whole !
