  • Total Noob , Want to decide which RE bike to buy ?

Hi Friends , This is my first post as I am totally new to the evergrowing bike enthusiast federation .
I dont even have a license yet ( will turn 18 in July ) , so I have very meagre knowledge about bikes. I have ridden a Karizma , pulsar 220 and thats the end of my biking aptitude .
    I am considering a CRUISER motorcycle , esp . Royal Enfield's Machismo 500 ,
budget has no limits , I have heard ( as well as read on internet ) that oil leakages and vibrations are very common to Mach 500 and also that it requires high maintenance .
This would be my first bike and I want to make it special , also I would be using it for 3-4 yrs , after that I will no longer be in India .
Prices dont matter , mileage dont matter either.
    Every opinion counts.
    Thanks in advance .
    Cheers!!!!!!!

If Price really doesn't matter, you can choose Suzuki Intruder, a 1783cc Twin engine costing some 13.2 Lacs on road... Heavily Reliable, and kills kms after kms. A great Touring machine. It has loads of torque at all rpms...

INDIAN:--> Bajaj Avenger is the cheapest Cruiser, at 70+ something INR and it won't leak oil. It has a 200cc engine.

In terms of vibrations, RE Thunderbird TwinSpark is latest, and even it vibrates beyond 80 kmph. Every RE will vibrate above a certain speed ... Their speciality is to pull load effortlessly in higher gears...

Or Suzuki Hayabusa at same price, is a Sports Tourer. It also looks & performs great...

I like your advice. You are proposing a 196Bhp machine to a person who has practically NO or little experience in biking.
The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

I would say THunderbird Twin Spark.

It is good cruiser, Better Looking and better than the 500 in terms of reliability. I have two friends of mine having machismo 500. Reliability on this bike is not that good. Whereas I guess Thunderbird TwinSpark is better. 500 only has mountains of torque thats makes it cool for mile munching but thunderbird should not be that bad either.

I would suggest avenger if you are worried about the high maintenance... But as you mentioned that you want a RE bike then i guess Thunderbired Twinspark would be a good buy... Machismo 500 also is a great bike but as mentioned is a high maintenance bike( in the sense that its will need more maintenance than the TB twinspark)... I'm a big fan of RE too... So my only advice would be if you are really interested in buying a RE bike, be ready to spend time with your bike... Keep her clean... Give her a daily check up... Learn everything about her... And surely she wont dissapoint you...

He says, he's just a bit under-age & new to "forum only".

He says he has ridden a P220/ ZMA. And he can ride a Royal Enfield. ok? Then, I'm sure Intruder won't be a problem. Moreover, these companies (Honda, Suzuki, etc.) have an optional training session, on handling these bikes.

Of course, I shouldn't have suggested the Hayabusa. Sorry for that. I'll edit.

                      Awesome! LMAO!

Samarth : some of your posts are really kiddish man ( i remember reading your posts about the guy who won with all those votes the other day)

Sarvajit : Dude NO! Have u ever ridden the Avenger with the windshield? The bike with the shield is only good for people under 5'5". Coz if you are taller, the windblast from over the shield at anything above 60km/h is just too much

@thewanderer: Have you riden a Bull before? The reason I am asking you is because it's the heaviest bike (Indian make) and the mileage would be anything between 30 - 45 pl.

If you are looking for a good mileage bike which can be used for travels as well as city rides, I would suggest go for ZMA; however, if you are still going to go for a Bull, I would suggest get a 350cc - Machismo or ThunderBird

If you're under 18 and budget isnt a constraint do the following two step process:
                          a. While hanging out with the chick(s) you like, casually comment "Don't you think R15 looks hot". You may wish to have their brochures around as props. Hang on to every word the target segment says.
                          b. Among them, choose which one fits you like a glove. Bikes (like a lot of other things) are like chaddis. What may be downright impractial for some, is the only solution for others.

That will do it. Impresses the chicks and goes by your gut feel.

As for the posters on this thread - they get their kicks from playing a voyeuristic buyer itself. Doesn't mean you need to consider any of those inputs. And honestly, at 18, testosterone pwns all these minor details like comfort, mileage, handling and other irrelevant crap.

aaahh... that is being harsh on the kid. He will never be make zilch of what what is glaringly underscored otherwise. Wise words rather be put straight my friend(s).

                              lol.

                              Two things.
                              a. The previous post assumed a certain sense of wry humor. If I had that budget at that age, I would've done the same
                              b. You may apply the most"scientific" of all processes but its ultimately subjective. If he has no constraints, going by gut is cool. And like another guy posted, factoring in the gf's perspective ain't bad either And its not like one bike is right, while another is wrong.

And btw, its not being harsh - its practical
