  • Upgrading from Apache RTR160 to Yamaha R15

Hi guys i currently own a Apache rtr160 refresh which is about 9 months old. However i have been planning to sell off my bike and get the Yamaha R15. Budget is not an issue. So will my biking experience improve significantly ? Also is the R15 suited for small trips (touring) since the position is quite sporty ? And finally is the upgrade worth the extra moolah i will spending ?

I have been quoted the following for the R15
    Ex-showroom price - 97495
    Insurance - 2081
    Reg. amount - 7640
    Octroi - 4384
    Total - 111530/-

Fair enough ? Thanks in advance.

      I would say fair enough.
The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

How much are you getting for your RTR Refresh?

As for the upgrade yep its justified though R15 aint a machine for touring.

thr wont be any "upgrade" in the performance as such cuz the hooligan nature of RTR even beats R15...

but yes putting down ur legs at evry turn, refinement and tht big YAMAHA name justifies it all.....

but for touring due to their ridin positions both bikes aren't good......

First things first: RTR is a sporty bike, whereas R15 is a sportsbike.
It cannot obviously be compared to the bigger SBKs, but it does initiate you into the world of sportbiking. This was my sole reason for choosing it over the P220, despite the cc difference.
As for the biking experience, I doubt which bike in India can give you better handling&braking than the R15. Top speed is an added bonus too, unimaginable of any 150cc bike.
Coming to touring, me&many others are using it, and find no issues with the seating position whatseover. Ground clearance also is very good. Only problem is the soft compound tyres, which do not inspire confidence during offroading. Smooth roads&wet conditions are great though.

The only difference you will find IMO is during city commuting. RTR wins hands down when it comes to this department. But that again is a matter of getting used to.

Overall, I say if you have the budget, go for it-it is a highly superior bike technically! You will be happy for years to come.

However, all the best in getting a good resale for your RTR, as the 2nd hand market is very biased when it comes to TVS bikes. Hero Honda remains the undisputed leader in resale value.

The motive is quite simple, i was hooked on the looks and specs of the bike. The other day i took a TD and boy was i grinning ear to ear. Thats when i decided that this would be my next bike. The smoothness of the bike and above all it's ability to cruise at high speeds is something which is not done properly in "our" bikes.

Hmm i guess i'll have to get used to the posture.

Thanks for posting a detailed reply to my query.
As for city riding i don't really mind working the gears. And as for the bias it's certainly there but i think i'll find some sensible biker who would be willing to take care of my RTR. I've put up an ad on xbhp as well for the same.

Edit: One more thing i want to confirm is whether there are going to be upgrades to the r15 in the near future or any competitor bikes i need to look for as well (barring the rtr180) ?

The only other supersport motorcycle planned for India that can be 'not very far away' from the R15 is the Ninja 250.

Yamaha will not upgrade the R15 any time soon but a performance kit is definitely a 'work under progress' thing.

Other competition, no idea... you may better check the 2009 Speculation thread (http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/desi-bik...-launched.html) for more info

Dio comes in very handy to Dad, Mom, Sister, etc and is a very useful tool to drive down to the market... If I were to do that, I would not sell the Dio instead of the RTR... yeah, unless that is screwed up.

I am saying that because the seller [wheel_spin] Dio has done more than 19k on odo and i think rather tyan selling a 1.1k apache its better to sell the Dio as he wont get any good resale value for the bike!

@HydBiker: You have given him the link to the Speculation thread! Now he will forget all other threads&be hooked on to that dream world, like I am!

Jokes apart, has your RTR done only 1.1K kms.? It would be a crime to sell it after such less usage.
