  • Karizma R vs Yamaha R15 (2nd Hand)

    Hi all!!!
    I would like some crucial inputs from all of you. Actually, I am planning to buy a new bike and my budget is Rs.80K. The best in this range is definitely, Hero Honda Karizma R.
    But off late, i have received an offer to buy a 8 month old Yamaha R15. The R15 is in excellent condition and is being maintained very well. The body is almost scratch less as well..... the price quoted for the R15 is around the same as the new Karizma R.
    What should i do guys??? Please help me out...which one should i opt for.
    My preference is a good looking bike with good performance as well......not really a fast rider but would like that something in the bike to keep me excited about. Thanx a lot to everyone in advance.
    Would an 8 month old R15 be a good enough buy over a new Karizma?? or shud i stick to the Karizma???
    And one more thing, does anybody know the process of buying a used bike? I mean what all paper work to be done and most importantly what should be the check points that i need to have in mind before buying a 2nd hand bike?
    What all should i check? the papers, conditions...ettc....
    Thanx a lot yet again and Happy & Safe biking everyone!!

      if you have to put 80k on a used bike.. it looks weird to me... the other option will be..incase u inclined for R15....is to get remaining amount as loan and get a new r15....

      Karizma is still very good..i have 3.5 year old zma and still strong....

      wrt to checking bike.... take a spin probably on a free road , check for insurance, tax receipts and original papers...the RTO paper needs to be signed by seller before handing the bike to u...

        The first thing is a new bike is always better than a second hand one!!!!
        Its give a fresh feelling that its yours only .

        Comparing zma vs R-15 ......... my choice is r 15 cus it looks r killing ........it have lastest tecnology compare to zma which is using 5 year old technology except the graphics .

        but again th r - 15 is second hand so first take test ride ...take ur own mechanic and check all the thing .....as also u can make some more bargaing as 1 month before when i was searching for a bike i also found one black r 15 in mint condition he was asking me for 80000rs but i bring him to 73000rs. so try bargain !!!!

        AND rest the choice is yours

        best of luck

            Dude,
            I would suggest u to go for ZMA, no offences aganist R15 which is of course a good bike, But as u said ur not a speeder who loves his tacho needles "RED-LINING" u can verywell go in for ZMA which is a very good bike for all the reasons ond purposes. It may have the 5yr old technology but with that it gives other bikes including ur second choice a run for its life..... and last but not least, the feeling of FRESH BIKE is just so amazing that u dont want to miss!!!! Rather i would not.....

              +1 for that... in my opinion R15 is way better than a ZMA... ofcourse ZMA is a very good bike, but when it comes for a second hand one there are lots of things to be checked on, condition,how much kilometers,insurance & tax papers(ya they will be clear for a new bike... so will not be probs in that)...

              And my opinion is that u buy an R15 a fresh one...

                New zma VS new R15 - i will go for R15.

                New zma VS old R15 -i will go for the ZMA.

                I dont think you can judge a bike by its exterior.If i were to sell my CBZ and if the buyer takes the decision by solely by looking @ the exterior he is a complete fool.Obviously he does not know about all the metal foils i discovered when changing my oil filter for the FIRST time in 11000KMS.God knows what damage the engine has went through. But i would be very happy to sell the bike would the buyer feel the same if he discovers metal fragments in the centrifuge filter after he bought it.The point is buying a second hand bike is a very risky proposition.
                Note: my bike looks as good as new.

                  R15 any day....

                  zma dont even comes close to it...

                  just compare the features you're getting for almost the same price plus the "YAMAHA" name..........

                  zma dont even come close to the tech R15 is laden with....adding stickers and painting the engine black hasnt done anything more good to the R than the 6 year old karizma.....

                  go for the R15 buddy.......

                    Both bikes are good picks, but they are suited to different uses/riding styles.

                    What do you intend on using your bike for?

                    The R15 should be your choice for these:

                    * Zipping around town
                    * Going to college/work, short distance
                    * Track use?

                    The ZMA's your best bet for:

                    * Long distance commuting
                    * Touring
                    * Some track use?

                    If the used R15 is in top shape and you can verify this beyond all doubt, then buy it.

                    If the choice were left to me, I'd choose the ZMA. Not just because I own one, but in my opinion, the bike is also well suited for the city use that the R15 is good for.

                        New Zma-R would be very wise choice, b'cos any second hand bike has some elements of risks.

                          well thanx a lot to everyone....for their precious inputs....
                          well, a few updates about the R15 is that bike has done around 8000kms and has gone through 4 free services(all on time)...i need to ride it which i would do pretty soon!
                          The guy who is selling seems pretty trustworthy....he claims that he has serviced the bike at right times and has maintained it well....all this remains to be seen once i hop on the bike for a ride!

                          How can i make sure that the bikes engine is in good condition by riding it?? I dont think a local mechanic would be of much help....and how many days does it take to transfer the bike at RTO???

                          I have ridden Karizma and i know...it is absolutely worth it! Just giving a 2nd thought to the R15 since i love it as well....

                          I love both the Karizma and the R15. Though....R15 is a killer on looks ....so i m a bit tilted towards it.....not that Karizma is any bad...but you know what i m saying....!!!

                          Thanx again to everyone for their inputs and precious time.....do guide me further on what should i do....

                          Buying a Karizma would be no doubt a safe choice.....but what are the risks involved with a 2nd hand R15?? Do throw some light on it.....
                          And yes, does any body has any info about the cost of spares on both the bikes....which is more costly to maintain???

                            Very well maintained R15 can be a good buy over a New Karizma.

                            But Owning a new bike has different feeling.

                              Try bargaining (tell tire would need replacement soon, plus you lost free servicing etc. etc. :P ), if it comes down to <75k then R15 is absolutly better choice.. and yes, you really can't tell the engine condition if you don't have experience on that bike..still your conclusion will vary a lot(probably you can ask for help from any of your friends who is experienced on R15 or a mechanic who has experience of R15)
