  • Does age and responsibilty brings death to the biker soul inside us

there is a question running in my mind that we talk so much about bikes right from a 100cc to 2000cc bikes, but the big question how many of us really do biking after late 30's or after having their own families, majority of us cuddle in the car seats and when we look out of the driver window and see some youngster driving fast with a hayabusa we remember our old days and feel something is missing in this peaceful, relaxed seat of the car.

I agree we buy big and powerful bikes when we are young but how many of us keep the faithful friend of us going till we retire, and how many of us like to relax in the comfy zone of cars.

Our days change by we dont like biking in rains or driving 50 kms on bike where at one point of time we see our speedo touching 300 kms per day.

I feel somewhere we kill the biker in us.we feel its enough driving for 10 years or 15 years and thats it.

Why we feel our body cant handle the stress we could handle in our early 20s.

Is it really age which stops us or is there a mental blockage which doesnt allow the biker inside us to be alive.

Tomorrow 20 years down the line xbhp will be there and we may find our kids checking our articles and question us where is the biker soul buried.

Do we have answers for them or are we really happy by killing the bikers in us.

Waiting to listen from you guys

I would love to hear from all

    Regards

    Shrinath

    Topic Moved and Approved.

We have enough people here, on xBhp, who are into their late 30s, and still ride around on their litre class two wheelers, for everything - from getting groceries () to a 1000kms. ride!

I, for one, don't see myself sit quietly till I get my hands 'dirty' with the 'One, be it at my current age or when I am into my late 30s (or 40s for that matter!).

        Well its a Fact.......
There will be a change if and so all the responsibilities are kept on our head.......
After 30 ur married....childrens....Higher posts in work.....
Definetely 90% of usual people will opt to put a Pause for biking or Quit biking.......
Since at that age if we get free time we spend it with our Family rather than touring with our Bike....

well age and responsibility can only stop us but not lead to death of the biker in us
the passion always burns inside ... until unless something tragic or some strange thing emotionally happens or you get BORED or physically challenged ( which i hope does not happen )

              enjoy mate
Hope is a good thing ,
may be the best of things and
no good thing ever dies .

Get busy living or get busy dying .

                It's DK
Yess ofcourse --he is definitely younger than any of us ..having 20 yr. children and riding an aquila and hanging around with us at his age surely has the biker light still burning inside him
Also with his nature it actually becomes difficult to discern him as a senior...."elder brother" title wud be more apt

Very well put Shrinath. I have been thinking about the same thing myself.
I remember while I was in college and even a while post that my neighbors used to ask my parents if I ever got off my bike. I used to ride responsibly those days too, always with a good helmet but used to spend hours riding. Looking for excuses to take my bike and go , wherever it was.

Now, 10 years later at the age of 33 years and 1 month I have re kindled that old passion. I just got myself an RTR 180 . It was ostensably bought to ease the pain of driving in narrow lanes and shopping trips to the nearby markets but, as soon I got on the bike all my passion came rushing back. My wife and I were excited like teenagers getting their first bike ride ever.

Am I more responsible ? Completely, got a good helmet for me and my wife and next month its the turn of riding jackets. No crazy speeds (well maybe once in a while ) and no breaking traffic rules. Safety first is THE motto.

Am I too old ? Hell no, I am just beginning my 2nd life and then the Ninja might also get launched soon .....

                      More control for sure

well, 33 does bring about a change. I had a 1 year biking break as i used to drive to office. Then the urge to ride combined with frustrations of driving were too much. Now that I am back to riding, the urge to race that kid trying to overtake you is curbed. Riding is far more controlled now.

I've seen a lot of people who are considered 'old' riding bikes(Modified Bullets).Saw one modified into a chopper near Rest House(Bangalore).Saw around 5-6 Bikers(All probably 40-50) in Nandi Hills.Saw one on a BMW Adventure Bike(must have been going really long since he had packed his backpack bigtime).

Another reason many bikers stop biking when they get older is because of the norms of the society to which they conform such as "Become obese and walk around the park when you get old","Car=Status Symbol" and all sorts of crap like that.Society(majority) has this concept of "Car with Driver>Car>Bike>Bus>Cycle>Foot".But the truth is that all these modes of transport are good in their own way,but society makes individuals believe otherwise.

                            Hey all.. nice topic..

There are many experienced bikers on xBhp too, who haven't lost their passion.. they are my role models.. And getting cosy in cars will always be possible.. mostly it may happen with me too, but I'll NEVER leave biking..

If I get children in future who are a little interested in biking too, I will be their mentor. I will make sure my wife also doesn't feel left out, I'll get some nice cushioning done on the pillion seat. And maybe portable VIDEO goggles (anything is possible in the future) so that she doesn't miss her favourite TV shows on the Go.. :P (other innovative ideas are welcome).

One thing that can help keep the biking spirit alive in us is xBhp. And we have the 'here' and the 'now' to enjoy biking to the full. Only way we can keep the same enthu going is to never let it die down! There's this funky dialogue in Kung-fu Panda which goes like "Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a GIFT, that is why it is called the 'present'!"

                              Well I am just 20.
Not riding in the rains is just fine. Biking in the rains may be a very fine adventure[even i love it] but its too risky and also uncomfortable.
Driving in rains is far better than biking in terms of safety and comfort. But that does not mean the biker in that person is dead. heck once a passionate biker always a passionate biker. The changes we can see in some passionate bikers once they start ageing that a different class of bikes appeal to them.Revvy screamers or crotch rockets don't appeal to some people once they age. They like cruisers and tourers more than the R series bikes.

This is what I have observed. Obviously my observation is limited.
