    Hi

I was planning to buy a used Thunderbird and was searching for one in the recent months in Bangalore. I never came across a good one with in 60 k . All i was able to see was 2005/04 models quoting sky high prices and one of them even quoted 75 k. So now I started thinking about going for a new one itself and I went to Showroom to Test drive.

    My requirements are
    1)City Riding and Frequent touring
2)Should not give much problems during the long trips.
    3)Better mileage
    4)Easy to maintain

All the above 4 factors are equally important for me, though i can compromise on mileage a bit.

First I test drove TBTS and I was not that impressed but no complaints either also I dont mind buying it.Gear shift was not smooth and often it slipped. I noticed center stand hitting the road often while turning in good angle and in speed brakers. Showroom guy said that the demo bike was sent before TBTS was launched and stand was an issue. Heard it is corrected in the newer models. Any idea guys????
He also told me reboring TBTS is not possible.
I am 5'10 and slighlty thin guy ,TBTS dint look that good for me. Eventually i lost my interest in TBTS.

There was no Machismo 350 in the showroom to test drive. When asked my showroom guy said it is not fast moving. Hows the maintenance , mileage , reliability part of machismo when compared to Electra?

Whatever i had heard till now is there are not much diff between Machismo A350 and Electra 5S.

I request Machismo and Electra owners to post their views

    Regards
    Buvan

Electra has the original bullet thump since it still uses the old engine, that's what the showroom guy told me. Machismo is costlier than Electra.

          @Moeed

I am fine with the cost of Machismo or even Machismo 500LB because i am going to use this bike for long term.

I will be frequently going for long trips. My question is Will Electra give me problem during the long trips? How reliable is Electra when compared to Machismo and Machismo 500 lb? because i dont know to repair the bike if something goes wrong. This is going to be deciding factor to choose the bike.

How is Machismo 500lb? Is there any problem with Machismo 500 LB? I can see lot of peole talk about the Electric starter problem. Is that the only problem? If so Is Machismo 500LB available with out the Electric start?

            Buvanrajd,

The Electra 5S has very decent reliability if taken care well of. The key here is that is has the cast iron engine which has lesser abuse tolerance than the AVLs.

The Mach350 is the best compromise between power and reliability but is plagued by clatter which pisses most people(riders) off. The Mach LB500 is currently the big daddy with loads of torque but suffers from sprag clutch gremlins. Add a lowish fuel efficiency of 25KMPL. Apart from this, the LB500 is one of the best touring machines ion India. And don't forget, it is a high maintenance machine, especially if you rip around.

But, the TBTS is the one to go for as it requires way lesser maintenance than the other bullets. Also, the comfort on long rides is great and it delivers almost 40 KPL which is damn good, especially during tours. The only minus is that the cruiseresque design makes it a little cumbersome in bumper to bumper city traffic. Looking at all the factors that you want in the motorcycle, the TBTS, IMHO is the motorcycle for you.

            Cheers,

            Jay

              Hi Jayprasanth

              Thanks for the reply.

Can you please let me know more about whats that clatter problem. I dont know much !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is the sprag clutch problem due to ES. I heard MACHISMO 500 lb returns a very decent mileage but 25KMPL is disappointing. I was thinking it will give 35ish (over expectations!!!!!) Anyway all the bullets will cost atleast 1000rs per service .how much does 500 lb vary in this. is spares of Machismo 500 costly???????

The 500 is really good. The engine is powerful and you can take it on any terrain. But the problem as mentioned above is the mileage. You will get around 25 km/l. If you don't have any problem with the mileage, go for it.
If you are looking for better mileage, you can consider TBTS.

TBTS is a very good tourer & gives a very decent mileage for its capactiy which Is my 1st Option for U ..

If u do not like the above & want to choose between Electra 5s & Mach 350.. go for Mach 350 cos it has AVL engine & better top end than Electra 5s Altough Electra has better torque figures which can make it easier to drive in Hily terrains.

Both Electra 5s & mach 350 are good bikes & it depends on U which u like the most..

Maintainenece read - Avl requires little more than electra since Electra is still running on Iron cast engine.

LB500 is a different league.. It has I thnk 42nm of torque.. I heard it can give up to 30-32kmpl if driven sanely & for that capacity & torque figures it produces that is very decent mileage.

I know I have again put in doubt i/o clearing it right.

choose which U r heart says yes cos Maintainence doenst differ much if u own a bull ( except LB500)

                      Good solution to your dilemma

                      Hi,

Wait for some time, RE is launching a classic model with good features. I have test ridden one, and it was simply amusing on high as well as low speed. Handling was great, i think rear tyre is smaller than the front tyre, but it gives terrific stability.

Although, our Indian version will have carburettor and no Fuel Injection, but driving it is very meaty. Enhancements like K&N filter will be easily be applied due to it. UCE will be the engine type, so there will be no different compartment for Clutch oil, gear box oil etc.. There will be a single reservoir of oil. And so less maintenance and oil drippings.

350cc but 22Bhp is what the engine will be delivering. Handle position will be like standard 350 bullet. The top speed will be 110kmph by company. And seating position is very comfortable. Thumping will be enhanced one like Standard 350.

Finally, They asked me, If given a chance to replace my Electra-5s (DBES) with it would i go for it? I said yes by just a test ride of the bike. I asked them the price and they said less than new Thunder Bird and Machismo 500cc.

I hope you will wait shortly for this new bike from RE.

I cant and Wont say i dont like any of the Royal Enfield bullets. Though i know TBTS is a direct fit to my requirements. But still i am confused whether i should go for Machismo 350 / 500. Any comments on Machismo 350 mainetenance?????

I feel i might look too small in the TBTS and I will look perfect in Machismo.

After all the confusions this is my current thought
TBTS is a direct fit except how i will look in that
Electra: No due to the Reliability and the need for visiting mechanic shed is more.
Machismo: No reasons to say no,but not sure about the Mileage and Reliability when compared to TBTS
500:No Assuming Mileage is " 25kmpl ", and Miantenance is " too " high when compared to the other bullets.

So i have to decide among Machismo 350 and TBTS

                        Help me guyssss!!!!!!!!!!!!

                          @Jayakumar bardwaj

Thanks for your info. But the showroom guys said they dont have any info about the machine.Might be their tactics to sell the current models. And Waiting for a new launch is such a pain in the A..

And moreover i dont want to be the tester of RE Though i might regret my decision later. Cant afford to be a tester dude, so backing out.
