Default TVS Apache 160 RTR

A brief introduction of me:

I am 21 years old, computer research candidate from Ahmedabad (Gujarat), who have ridden mopeds and cars for 7 years.

So, I had an accident last week and the scooty was gone . Went to the showroom on the same day and decided upon to get the Apache 160 rtr (purely due to its looks) from rest of the TVS motorcycles. I hardly do like 15 Kms a day on two wheeler, for rest I prefer my car (a Santro).

How was it like :

No test ride. I was just hell bend to get the Apache. Got the delivery in half an hour. I drove through the heavy traffic to get home. Man, I just wanted to turn back to the showroom and ask “Does this thing even have a neutral gear?”. I was just fooling around with the gears.

I concluded that I need to do more homework with Apache then getting it on the road and hurting someone. For rest of the week, I did 20 Kms per night on vacant roads. Here is the review.

Power :

Amazing. This thing really moves. I have tried Pulsars a lot, but this thing was completely different. Just touch the throttle and this thing starts to move. Honestly, it doesn’t feel like it’s a 160 CC motorcycle. Didn’t revved it much however.
Looks:
That’s what I got it for! Btw, I got the titanium color. I started it in the underground parking lot and it’s humming made people envious . I got to say it has some neat looks. Perfect balance between sleekness and beefiness.
Mileage:
I had 2 liters of unleaded petrol over the reserve mark and did 97 Kms with it. Hope it improves.
Ergonomics :
Sporty. Not exactly comfortable for 100+ Kms. No complaints from pillion rider. Foot peg’s location not comfortable if ridden in heavy traffic.

Now I got few questions:
  1. Gears are giving me real hard time. They did smooth a bit and neutral is “discoverable”, but still they jump a lot. Any chance that I’ll end up damaging something inside the engine with this problem?
  2. What kind of petrol will suite the best for this motorcycle?
  3. What are the optimum speed and RPM to ride this motorcycle?
  4. Any special care that I should take based on you guy's expert opinion?
Really guys, I don’t was to screw up with this beautiful bike, any comments and suggestions are most most most welcomed.
Will post pictures soon.
- Rahul.
