Default Clocked 10000Km in Yamaha FAZER

Hi all

This is my first post in xBhp. I want that to be about my buddy ' Fazer'. It was on Feb 2009 I made my mind to take a bike to conquer the roads of chennai(basically I m from Kerala). My mind was fumbling between the beauties available on market. At last I have shortened my selection to Karizma. Unicorn,Enfield and Fazer. All the first three were too easy to get....a 6 month waiting period which was not acceptable for me So I went for Fazer, the black beauty. My buddy came to my hands on the same day I born on this earth.... On my birthday....There starts the journey from 0km and now stands on a 10000km without any toughs and coughs

During the intial days the ride was just super but I felt a strong stiffness and also some hardness in th engine. As it is the first bike I m ever riding I was not aware of the service and pre-service factors but my friends helped me in knowing all these things and frequent articles on xBhp on various sides of biking was slowly making me move to core biking from the four wheelers which I loved like anything. After the first service on 900km, I felt the smoothness on my buddy. I kept my buddy below 50-60 km/hr before the first service . I can say I maintained the same upto nearly 1600km. Before first service the mileage was nearly 45 and above but after the service it dropped back to 34 which was a hole in my pocket but I believed in my friend and now my buddy gives me a 38kmpl which is absolutely good for me. There were no problems at all not even in any aspect. Now I have done almost 5 services and still my buddy is going smooth and fine.

But surely as everyone I have some sadness also. The silencer of the fazer is more open to scratches , If you dont care it will fill with scratches. The other stuff is the mirrors....Oh!! my god..This is the part where you need to be careful all the time otherwise the side by autowala will take that from yoo . My left side mirror is gone like that and I m about to replace the same soon as stocks are not available. In between I removed the number plate and put a sticker as I thought number plate on the fazer is like a fly on the nose....So I removed the same. The other bad thing is the ground clearance I have my buddy tuned for a soft suspension and so if I dont care then the button will hit on bumps like what happened to the Kinetic Hondas. Somebody says that hardening the suspension will solve the issue but I dont mind doing that ..........as I m so happy with the suspension and the ride quality. And last but not the least the headlight I dont why Yamaha has gone for this waste stock headlights. I m planning for something big in this area. So lets say a good bye to so called negatives . Let us go to the postive sides

The best positive side of fazer is the control it is offering. Superb control and the bike wont rattle even at 95km/hr. I think it is due to the big wheel on the back side. The other thing is the intial pull up . Some of friends said that Karizma and Pulsar has the highest pulling power( I m not downgrading any bikes) but in the OMR signal at Tidel Park I have beaten these two bikes while we are standing on the same line infront of the signal. But I would say at high speed it is difficult to take on pulsars as I have tried the same also, the 220 was flying ahead of me. The reliability my buddy offers me is the best gift of him to me. When you are city traffic, during the intial days you will feel a difficulty in controlling fazer but as you get used you will enjoy it.The braking is also superb the large front disks ensue that fazer will get stopped and if you learn the trick of front and rear brake ratio then skidding can also be avoided. Another best thing is the seating posture it wont make your tired even a small level. Superb seating position which is just made to make driving enjoyable. I think I have put all on my fazer

Now about my plans. I m planning to take off the waste stock headlights ( only god rescued me from night accidents) and going to put a HID along with HID projects and paint the reflectors black. Another modification I m planning to do is the alloy painting to mat gold color. Planning to do the same on coming 4 months. I will surely post the pics here in xBhp.Here I would thanks a lot to xBhp for making me understand the HID projectors and other aspects of it .

You can't compare a 220cc bike with that of 153cc.. any 220cc bike would always be faster .. but a Fazer can definitely eat any other 150cc bike for breakfast.. and I can say that from my personal experience on it..

I'd agree with you on the headlight part.. the stock are not good at all.. even I'm planning to get HID installed in a few months.. rest all is superb.. I've done almost 1200 kms on my NightFury so far and its giving me ~45kmpl

looking forward to hear your story on mods and the pics of your buddy..

You mean it can also eat R15 for breakfast? Fazer is a good and able bike, but sometimes you need to be unbiased to comment like that. Fazer wont be able to keep up with a P150, let alone the RTR.

Okay, I take my words back.. not an R1 .. But I've been beaten pulsars n Apaches quite a few times already.. Now, may be those riders weren't as good, u may say..

Btw, why in your opinion, pulsars n RTRs wud be better..?

yaaa Buddy .... I have contacted the modifier for the HID projectors... Will be doing it very soon... I m filling my pocket to make that happen......

Regarding the overtaking I would comment everything depends on the driver.....I know some crazy guys who are driving splendor like anything that too in heavy traffic.....Many times I have prayed god not to make me see an accident happening for that guys......Proper timing and everything in proper place will take a driver a way ahead of his bike.....I mean he can make a 100cc work like a 150cc

Fazer has the same engine as the FZ16, with better aerodynamics. Those are really superb handlers and very easy to ride bikes. FZ16 as well as Fazer has very good amount of torque which is optimized for low & mid range. It simply means in low & mid range you will have superb pull, very good handling & joy of riding.

Things really turn over in the top end for Fazer/FZ16. RTR/Pulsar is more optimized for top end speed and throttle response. When FZ16/Fazer will be out of breath in top end with slowly building up acceleration, RTR or the Pulsar will stand out. RTR has much better throttle response than Pulsar & really quick in 0-100. Handling is very nice but I will say RTR has a better handling in top speeds which FZ16/Fazer beats RTR in mid range.

Basically, both bikes are meant & optimized for different purposes, so in my opinion they are actually not easy to comapre. RTR is optimized for racing tracks, Pulsars for performance oriented & FZ/Fazer for joy of riding & easy handling in city conditions.

Yes it is always the rider & not the ride & properly knowing limitations of your ride/yourself. Buddy I would like to pint out we generally call us bikers instead of drivers

Dude, don't be surprised! Some Fazers have touched 175kph too.Don't get me wrong and neither am I kidding. But that's the kind of gyaan Yamaha dealers give to prospective buyers here. So,next time don't be surprised if someone tells you that his Fazer can even topple a N250R on straights..

Who told you 132??? I have FZ, its very tough to get 110+. Max speed is around 115 only.
