Hi. I am Rajesh from Cochin, a coastal region. I had been pondering over for a while on which scooter to buy. Since there are always the big names like Honda and TVS, one would think the choice would be obvious. But then, when you speak to your friends around, they always have their own recommendations so as you might have guessed already, it’s not that easy a choice.

While I was still doing my research, I suddenly started hearing a lot about a new scooter that is being advertised as the ‘tough & solid scooter’ made for Indian roads. And let’s not even get into how our Indian roads are. I think all of us here are fully aware of our infrastructure situation. And for people like me who are want to wander aimlessly in God’s own country, the options are few.

So anyway let me get back to what I really came here for . I heard of a new entrant in the market, called Mahindra Duro DZ.

Mahindra has been one of the most trusted brands of India. Since the company has always been known for producing some real ‘tough’ products, it was no surprise when they actually advertised the Mahindra Duro DZ as a solid scooter. This of course compelled me to check out the product. I had seen dozens of pictures floating around on the internet. So I decided to take a test ride.

I have been waiting to write about my experience with this new scooter, but wasn’t quite sure where to do it. So I asked a couple of ‘biker’ friends for a website that’s worthy of such reviews. Both of them suggested that I visit xBhp, so here I am. Since this is my first review, I hope you guys won’t be too critical about it.

I live in Cochin. I had owned a Honda Activa for two years and I was pretty much satisfied with its performance..But that was until I rode the Mahindra Duro Dz!

The first thing you instantly notice about the scooter is that the design is definitely a lot more stylish than the Activa, Access or even Wego (the reason lies in the latter part ).

I took the Mahindra Duro Dz for a test ride and I was amazed by its performance. The 125cc engine provided an immense power and I must admit that the pick-up was far superior to that of the Honda Activa. The ride was so enjoyable that I decided to go for one more round. This time, my wife was the pillion rider. Even with a pillion rider, the pick up of the scooter remained unaltered which was remarkably different from what I had felt when I took the Access and Wego for a ride very recently.

I had read a lot about this new Mahindra scooter that it was ‘ready to take on Indian roads’. ..soooo I decided to ride over a pothole. C’mon I had to do that-- And that was one of the best experiences I have ever had with a scooter. Sounds funny I know but true. The telescopic suspension of the Duro Dz is definitely advanced. I can see it is something that is heavily talked about everywhere. The new ad on the TV with Kareena Kapoor also talks about the engine and the suspension, which did catch my eye apart from the Bollywood actress of course who’s so bubbly whenever she is on the screen.

The Duro Dz scooter was incredibly smooth over the pothole and even on the little bumps (not many) that I encountered. This scooter had already passed my test and I decided to bid adieu to my two-year old companion Activa.

So people I have bought the Mahindra Duro DZ!

It’s been only a few days that I have started riding my new scooter and the mileage so far has been a little over 48 kmpl, which to me is good. Also one thing really impressed me. The ground clearance which the company claims to be at 155 mm was tested easily as I have one really dreadful speed-breaker close to my apartment which I think is being broken down now.. but currently in its given condition when I took the Duro Dz over it, it went smoothly without a worry. I have to be honest here, I was almost prepared that I will hear a bit sound when the speedbreaker will hit the bottom part of the scooter but it did not.

I am a heavy rider. Everyday, I ride at least 50 kms on the scooter. Sometimes, my wife takes the scooter to go to the market to buy grocery. I remember, the first day when she returned from the market, she was all gung ho about how spacious the under-seat storage of the Mahindra Duro Dz was. So there were coconuts, fish and vegetables for the entire week that she came back with her and needless to say, she was on top of the world. I have never seen so much enthusiasm from her about a scooter. Apparently one of her friends who has a TVS Wego liked the royal purple color of the Duro Dz much more than her white Wego. Women I tell you sometimes don’t have to see anything more than the style & looks. She also said that it was the first time all her groceries actually fitted under the seat. The front glove box of the scooter is also pretty spacious. But the best part is that the glove box comes as a standard fitment with every Mahindra durodz. I never had a glove box in my activa (which was an optional feature, for which I had to shell out a few extra bucks). I realized how important it was until I bought this scooter.
After having ridden through the streets of Cochin and outside, I must admit that as claimed by the company, the new Mahindra duro dz really is ‘Romba Solid’!

hey, even I bought the new Duro DZ after taking a test ride. Ride quality is good and handling is smooth. It has more ground clearance and that is important becoz my area has lots of bumps and kachha roads. Good for all new flyovers in the city! Am happy with performance.

You've basically given a very detailed review which fits for every Indian residing in any part of the country.

Congrats for your new ride.

This scooter has all the potential to beat the likes of Honda's and TVS. I had read a comparo of Activa Vs Duro and Duro had an upper hand in both the scooters. The mid range of the scooter is great which helps in overtaking without any issues. The development done by M&M in this scooter is amazing and their hard effort has really paid out for what they were wanting for.
