Default My First Ride Report of P220

I had booked my P220 on 23rd of June that's one day after the official launch and after one month I am still waiting....frustrating isn't it ? well, today I thought of dumping a dose of my frustration to the PBK(Pro Biking), pune guys by giving them a good earful and make it clear that I'll take my full amount back if I don't get my bike in few days......

Currently I don't own any bike so I am riding friends TVS scotty to work and to any damn place I have to go to. Earlier, I have owned a Suzuki SV650s for good 10 months in US. I have been to 4 track days in California and almost put 10,000 miles in those 10 months. So I have little back ground on riding a performance bike.

I entered Probiking Showroom with my I-am-gonna-kill-you face. A sales guy recognised me and started pretending to look in the computer as if he is trying to find something related to my booking. I din't say anything ( That's generally a paft of my anger managment ). He confirmed my name and I just nodded. He said, he has everything ready for my bike and just waiting for the RTO approval. Then, PBK's manager came by and said ...he already has my bike and even RTO papers are ready and he is just waiting for the RTO seal to get the bike on road. I had heard same thing before so I was even more furious and wanted to bust into the flames but I let him complete his speech ( because if I interrupt him I could forget my own lines )

suddenly I realized that I am buying a bike I have never ridden before....last time when I asked them for a test ride they said ...somebody crashed their brand new P220 test bike so right now it's not available for test ride. I thought of asking them for a test ride, so that If they say no I'll add more more dialogue in my speech.

well, I asked and he said yes. Here I go, riding a bike in parking lot where one complete round is hardly 250 meters.

They brought a Black pulsar 220 and I wasn't too exicted knowing the short distance I'll be riding...

I put my heavy a$$ on the bike and instantly liked the high foot pegs but up-right riding position style. My SV650s had high foot pegs and forward bending riding position which I liked for track days and riding at the hills but I could never ride it more than 100 miles in one shot...my back will start to ache ...so I am really not a big fan of forward bending riding position for a non-track bike and that's why I hated R-15 the moment I sat on it. The high foot pegs give enough sporty feel without any side effects.

The butter smooth first gear shift put a smile on my face and I let go of the clutch with enough throttle. Changed to second very soon and just ripped the throttle......well......hell.......the bike flies...really...I recalled the moment when I first test rode my SV650s. of couse, there is no match between performance figures between the two bikes but the P220 did enough to give me a adrenaline rush. I din't look at the speedo for the rpm or the speed...I just wanted to make most of the parking lot test ride.

I ripped the throttle as much as I can and I saw some pedestrians and security gaurds running for the cover...some of them decided to give me what-the-heck expression once they were out of the way....as I had decided not to test the brakes of the bike in first round.

The first round completed earlier than I thought. I asked for another round and sales guy gave a nod.....I ripped it again, without any attention to dashboard......security guards were already at the side of the parking lot...heck...I wanted to test the bracks this time but they didn't give me a chance.

I walked back to the showroom office with smile on the face... I gave a big smile to the PBK manager and said Thanks for the test ride. He wanted to give some more excuse for the delay.......I said don't wory...just let me know whenever it's ready.

@samy : Nice to read your ride report. I really feel Bajaj is at fault big time with regards to this rto clearance. They should have got all this cleared before only. Im sure there are many more frustrated people who still have not got delivery yet.

Well congrats to all of those who have booked and those who have recieved their new rides.

Today I tried going till manor to do max speed but unfortunately the roads are just too bad. In between its just like one long dirt track !

This is because of the fact that the engine will be running on load for the first time and the engine will finish itself. Its more or less like the final stages of production. You could find even metal shavings in the oil during the first service. To allow the engine to settle faster they are supposed to use low friction oil.

But it has often turned against the manufacturers here. Many people report seized engines because of the shavings getting in the way of the piston, mostly because people dont stick to the engine RPM limitations causing uneven cylinder wall expansion and larger shavings. So our manufacturers use only normal oil and cleanup the crap earlier in the first two services.

So as long as you didnt rip much you could easily delay it to 1000kms. According to me all Indian motorcycles need a proper 3000km run in thanks to the non-low friction oil run. The first 1000 with light accelerations and low speeds the next thousand with some stronger accelerations and short bursts of high speed and finally the third thousand with some strong acceleration and longer high speed bursts. Also an important point is that during run in its safe not to keep running the engine at the same RPM for too long, to avoid heat based abnormal wear causing engine havoc. That should give you a long living engine.
u are going way to theoretical dude... i suggest the motomans way of hard run in.. i asked them to change the engine oil at 200 so that they'll get rid of the metal shavings which come coz of the new parts.. the way u have explained things is strictly according to the theory or the manufacturer's manual.. but the hard run in method or the motomans way sets u apart from the rest of the others.. and the run in, the bikes run in is already 90%+ done before it comes to ur hand... only 1 thing should be kept in mind for a new bike, dont race hard.. doesnt matter at what rpm u make the shifts as long as they are below 7.5k rpm..
and the run in is entirely personal and depends on person to person.. remember a sports bike gives shattering performance but only lasts a few races.. but the same bike with manual kinda run in cant stand a chance in the race...
