well, the superbike magazine says that TVS is looking for a performance oriented bike and not economy for people like us. They maintain
they have realised the need of the hour. Even the magazine goes on to say that the launch of Comet by Kinetic is going to be stepping stone in the sports bike segment and we better save our money because there are more in the pipeline after comet and YES they are not far away. We are supposed to see many launches by this year end or early nexy year....yuuuupppiiiieeee...i am already excited.

tvs is a company which is using the same old fiero 150cc engine till date. no improvements in gearbox no improvement is power. they claim improvements in mileage but beleive me after seeing two fiero's and three f2's fiero (old) gives more mileage than the newer versions.

FIRST RIDE - TVS VICTORY GLX
Source: AutoCar April 2004 Ever wonder why all bikes selling in appreciable volumes in India are between 100 cc to 150cc? Well that's simple! Budgets being tight and economy receiving the sort of reverence it does, anything larger simply fails to make sense to the Indian buyer these are reasons behind the flurry of activity from manufactures, striving to provide buyers a complete selection within this narrow range. ![]() Quick to follow the impressive 100cc Centra out of the TVS stable is a VT-i equipped 125cc Victor, and this is the first peek you can get at this bike the older Victor stays in production and both models are to sell side by side. ![]() The firm divulges it could have gone the whole hog, coming up with something far more radically styled but has deliberately remained conservative, to find favour with the masses. Yet it takes one glance to know that the new GLX is among the best lookers in this segment. ![]() Neat creases and bulges snazzy dual tone graphics, and an eye for detail are what mark this bike out of the herd. An angular clear lens and halogen equipped headlight resides within a bikini-front behind which the Victor GLX offer stunning instrument- large, sited within twin-pods and very comfortable to read this cluster differs on the two options this bike will sell under. A tachometer will be present on the front-disc equipped bike, while the drum- brake model replaces this with a large fuel gauge. In addition to all the usual features, there's green light that glows when the VT-i is saving fuel under closed throttle conditions. Strong attention to detail is evident in the exquisite, tapered needless employed on all meters. ![]() The fuel tank on the new bike differs from the boxy piece present on the smaller Victor, and comes with more rounded lines and an aircraft-style fuel-filler lid below either side of the tank are small plastic cowls, filling up the void between the tank and engine side- panels carry on the theme, blending well into the tail, with a smart bulge running along both sides to end in a Fiero F2-derived brake light. ![]() Tank and fairing bits are garnished with smart dual-tone decals that certainly please the eye. The bike mounts its pillion footrests on attractive aluminium sub-frame sections below which runs a heat shielded silencer in chrome the tyres, developed by ceat exclusively for this bike ,add to the visual appeal. ![]() The Victor GLX comes with complete switchgear, moulded from quality plastic. An engine kill switch, pass light button and push to cancel indicators are standard. Those living up in the cold northern regions will love the convenient thump-operated choke, chrome handlebar ends lend a touch of class and the control levers, mirrors and grips are all as dandy looking and functional as they come. The Victor GLX runs with a spanking new VT-i or variable timing-intelligent engine. We applauded this engine when it recently saw the light of day, and were so impressed that we devoted and entire story to it in our January 2004 issue. For the benefit of first time readers who missed that, here's a brief outline. VT-i employs smart friction saving techniques and a micro processor-controlled four-stage ignition map to suit rider requirement in its quest for efficient combustion a single spark plug fires twice in the same complete combustion. There’s a heat sensor located in the thick of it all, within the engine sump to monitor engine-oil temperature this informs the ECU or engine control unit when the engine is cold which proceeds to throw in a thicker spark to save fuel by getting things swiftly up to operating temperature. The valve-rockers use needle roller-bearings at their contact points with cam-lobes, thus saving friction along with other features like a tin-coated piston, Teflon-coated cam-chain guide, and thin piston rings it's very simple actually: cutting down friction with in an engine leaves the crankshaft less force to overcome, and this saves fuel. Then there’s one last and most novel feature that VT-i packs in to save every valuable drop of petrol: the ECU when sensing a closed throttle opens a passage directly to the air-filter using a solenoid valve to cut off the carburettor. This kills the ability of cylinder suction to rop tiny quantities of fuel from a carburettor with closed slide. On our short test-ride the Victor GLX's 124.8cc mill fells hitch-free and delivers its peak power of 10bhp in a smooth and strong manner. Yes the power peaks at 7750 rpm, which is quite high in the rev band, and no doubt those of you who enjoy spirited riding will love wringing this engine for all its worth the engine sounds crisp, runs buzz-and knock free and revs clean into its upper reaches. We heard as light metallic clicking from the VT-i solenoid shutting and opening, but are confident this will surely be overcome by the time the bike hits production. The clutch is progressive and offers excellent feel. An all up slick shifting four-speed heel-and toe gearbox is as good as any, with no false neutrals experienced. The Victor GLX makes do with an upright riding posture and is as comfortable as any bike in its class, by virtue of a good footpeg-to-seat-to handlebar relationship. The gas tank offers a reassuringly fleshy feel, and a well padded seat leaves no scope for complaint in the comfort zone this feeling of well being extends to pillions who hop onto the new Victor the seat feels broad and roomy enough at the rear as well. Ride quality was spot on neither too harsh nor too soft. The front uses telescopic forks and the rear a duo of five way adjustable shocks. The machine proved itself a potent handler in the short spell we were granted on board- light nimble handling coupled to stable straight-line character. A single down tube frame and box metal swing arm are the ingredients of this successful recipe. The tyres are grippy too, making cornering more treat, less trick! This is one area in which TVS tight-lipped on the subject yet one has only to look at the recent trend of things emerging with the VT-i engine family to be reassured that they would surely not lag in this department. Worth noting are the power and torque figures being slightly lower than those of the GLX direct competitors the sumptuous Bajaj Wind 125 and Hero Honda Ambition 135. Trading off power has always meant better economy so it seen in such light the frugality for the new Victor. What's in no doubt is a new trend in the market with all major players now boasting a capable motorcycle on offer in this segment it's surely a sign of things to come the face of motorcycling in the future slowly but steadily we the buyers dethroned the scooter monarchy and handed the crown to the 100cc bikes. With fresh rumors of "the big aitch" mighty Honda--about to commence its Indian innings with one model rumored to be a 125cc this segment surely signifies the next little step forward. It's daggers drawn-there's more battles than only the ongoing indo Pak cricket that's getting pulses racing these days, and we've just identified the TVS Victor GLX as one of the big hitters.
