Thumbs up Tamil Nadu government to attract more auto investment.

Tamil Nadu government to attract more auto investment.

While Gujarat has been attracting the automobile industry investments off late, another favorite with auto investments Tamil Nadu is trying to elevate its image as global auto hub. According to reports, it has been mentioned that with Chennai enjoying a favorable climate among auto investors, the Tamil Nadu government has announced that it would strive make the city a global hub in the field of automobile and auto components manufacturing.
The reports quoted Chief Minister Jayalalithaa as saying "Tamil Nadu is No.1 in (manufacture) of automobile and auto components. We aim to make Chennai and other parts of the state a global hub in this regard.’’

It was mentioned that Tamil Nadu boasts of investments from some of the top international players in the automobile sector such as Ford, Hyundai and Renault-Nissan, among others. It was also reported that Industries Minister S P Velumani said it was the previous AIADMK governments headed by Jayalalithaa which were instrumental in attracting investments from automobile companies.

Gujarat and the Karnataka government were very keen on new investments, and Tamil Nadu is next. In fact, Gujarat government benefits the industries by motivation, tax rebates, timely returns, etc. and Karnataka government organises an Entrepreneurial Meet too, once in a couple of years.
It would be nice to see what initiative the T.N. Govt. takes, apart from the ones already taken.

Chennai? Whatever is in some 150 KM radius is Chennai! Watch out if they start selling plots in Pondy and call it outer of Chennai

In my opinion, other places is quite tough because of the connectivity through sea, air and road all in the same time.

Tuticorin, Nagapttinam, Cuddalore, Chidambaram, Tanjavur, Pudukottai or worst case, Kanyakumari - All of these cities have potential for ports. I'm not sure, if any auto parts are brought in regular through air. Infrastructure is what needs to be developed.

All these places on the coast are fishing areas. The other areas near them like Thanjavur etc are completely agricultural. Maybe areas around Trichy or MDU or Kovai are a good attempt. But nowhere near the sea. Developing automobile industries near any of these places require huge amounts of investment from the government's side for infra. But on the long term, it might be good.
