Traffic police to revise speed limit of roads in NCT

NEW DELHI: Traffic police on Monday issued an order to revise the maximum speed limit of various stretches in National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi, after finding that vehicles were being driven at high speeds on these roads thus endangering the lives of motorists as well as other commuters.

"Since it is necessary to regulate the speed of motor vehicles on the roads of NCT of Delhi for safety of motorists as well as other road users/commuters, under regulation 9 (1) of Delhi Control of Vehicular and Other Traffic on Roads and Street Regulations, 1980, we have changed the speed limits of some stretches. The concerned civic road agencies maintaining the roads/areas shall erect the corresponding informatory signboards indicating the restrictions in the area for the guidance and convenience of all concerned," explained Sharat Sinha, deputy commissioner of police (traffic).

For private vehicles including cars, jeeps, two wheelers and other vehicles, the speed bracket is 50-70 kmph whereas for all transport vehicles including autorickshaws, the maximum limit is a uniform 40 kmph. Inside residential complexes and commercial markets, the maximum speed limit for private vehicles is 30 kmph and 40 kmph for transport vehicles, said the traffic police.

For private vehicles, the speed limit is 70 kmph for flyovers such as NH-8, part of NH-10 and NH-1, DND, Saleemgarh Bypass, Barapulla Nullah and Noida Toll Road. Parts of the Ring Road (from Ashram Chowk to Azadpur Flyover and Chandgi Ram Akhara to Ashram Chowk), Outer Ring Road (from Modi Mill Flyover upto Olaf Palme Marg-NH-8 and Mukarba crossing to Old Wazirabad Bridge), NH-24 and Pushta Road have a maximum speed limit of 60 kmph for private vehicles.

Meanwhile, along Outer Ring Road from Janakpuri to Mukarba Chowk and Old Wazirabad Bridge to Timar Pur Light Signal, private vehicles have to remain with a speed limit of 50 kmph. Parts of the NH-1 and NH-10, NH-2, Barapulla Nullah from Fourth Avenue to Aurobindo Chowk as well as all areas between Ring Road and Outer Ring Road and the entire Trans Yamuna area have a maximum speed limit of 50 kmph. The speed limit at Northern Access Road, Radisson Road and all stretches near the airport have a speed limit of 50 kmph as well, added traffic cops.

Truly Absurd. People don't adhere to 1980s speed limits.. so you lower it. So smart.. Now even more people will break it. I guess thats the price of supporting 'Anna'ji... now that you cannot bribe your way out of it.. Prepare to cough out some serious dough.

        Indefinite fast anyone??

YOu see it doesnt make sense(the article) when the first line says vehicles were being driven at high speeds and endangering lives etc etc.
Then the traffic cops decide to UP the speed limits

Alright my bad.. I though the national speed limit for 4-wheelers is 80 and for 2-wheelers is 60. So thats why I made such a post when I saw speed limits on the NHs lower than this, thats all I could post. My bad.. I Didn't know the earlier speed limits at the said places. Not to mention that the article itself is a bit misleading. ALSO, nowhere in the article did I find a 2-wheeler speed limit >50.

makes perfect sense because that way everybody'sspeeds will be more or less equalised. rather than have one guy following teh speed limit while another guy goes much faster. also raising the overall speed limit greatly reduces pollution increases efficiency by decreasing total vehicles on road and reduces commute times.
Why is the man who invests all your money, called a broker?

I see you didnt get what i was saying. So i rephrase my statements in a question.
Why is the police complaining about "vehicles overspeeding and endangering human lives" first and then they "UP" the speedlimits?
Isnt that like helping those overspeeding motorists?

All the stretches where speed limit is now 70 KMpH used to have a 80 KMpH limit earlier. The speed limit has been decreased effectively. 50 KMpH at other places has been retained.

One thing I didn't understand - On inner stretches why do private vehicles have to ply at 30KMpH when the transport vehicles can go at 40KMpH. This doesn't make any sense.

                              I have a doubt
If the limit is say 60kmph-will and can the cops fine you even if you are doing 65km/h?
