Default Yamaha to launch host of anniversary models next week

Yamaha to launch host of anniversary models next week

Yamaha will unveil four anniversary special edition models next week as the Japanese firm celebrate 50 years of participation in Grand Prix racing.

Yamaha is releasing no official information about the bike until next Wednesday, a time which means the new models will miss going into the next issue of MCN out earlier that day.

Yamaha won’t even discuss which models are involved in the looming press release but the firm’s own website reveals at least four of the expected models.

Within the Yamaha press website are a series of folders which contain no images but do list each of the models due for launch. They include an updated Yamaha YZF-R1, cosmetically changed YZF-R6, FZ8 and YZF-R125.

The updated Yamaha YZF-R1 is thought to have undergone a series of engineering and cosmetic changes but remains fundamentally the same bike as is currently on sale.

The current R1 has been on sale unchanged since it was launched in 2009 and is struggling to match rivals in terms of sales and performance as the likes of the BMW S1000RR appeared.

The R1, along with the other models are believed to all be getting a paint scheme based on that seen at the Laguna Seca and Assen rounds of the 2010 MotoGP championship with reigning world champion Jorge Lorenzo and team-mate Ben Spies.

The other models listed include an R6 which is not understood to be any different mechanically to the current model, an FZ8 and a YZF-R125 too.

I'm waiting to see what Yamaha have been planning for the R1. Somehow, the 2009-'11 R1 is not the same machine I fell in love with in 2007...

Crossplane Crankshaft. Irregular firing order. Straight line Inertial Torque curve...

These are some words which really turned things for the 2009-till date YZF R1. Although positively or negatively, is each's own perception. It used to rank in top 2-3 litre class superbikes in 2007-08. Sometimes first too.

Where it is now? Where does it stand, all factors considered?

2007 R1. Ahhh... those 4 beamy projectors and their appeal, those fairing graphics & design, those journalists rating it in top 3, etc. Where has it all gone?

I wish Yamaha would launch YZF-R6 in India. The 600cc series in India is pretty much empty.
