Default Firing at Suzuki plant in Gurgaon, workers intensify agitation

GURGAON: A man has been arrested for allegedly injuring three employees of Suzuki Motorcycle India at Kherki Dhaula on Sunday morning. The accused Satish had also fired two shots in the air to scare away the employees, who have been on strike since Friday. The workers went on strike to show solidarity with their counterparts at Maruti's Manesar plant.

Kherki Dhaula SHO Rajeev Yadav said Satish and his accomplices came in a luxury car to the Suzuki Motorcycle plant where over a dozen employees were sitting on dharna. They allegedly told the employees to withdraw their strike and even abused them.

"After this Satish fired two shots in the air from his licensed revolver and then tried to flee. But by then more employees had reached the spot and they smashed the car's windscreen. In retaliation, Satish and his aides threw empty beer bottles at the employees and injured three employees," said Yadav.

Kherki Daula police has registered a case. Police said that Satish is from Jind district and allegedly related to a person who provides workers on a contract basis to the Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd ( SMIPL) here.

Police said an empty cartridge has been recovered from the factory premises. About 400 workers at SMIPL's plant have been on strike. The plant produces about 1,200 two-wheeler units on an average working day. Meanwhile , Maruti Suzuki India on Sunday dismissed 10 workers, five trainees and suspended 10 employees in connection with the strike and alleged violence at the Manesar factory premises.

In a statement, the company said the strike by the workers and the violence thereafter violated the agreement signed by the workers with the company management on October 1 in the presence of Haryana government officials.

O God. What a case of events... Seems that here everyone is at fault.

The employees were protesting to support Maruti Suzuki's strike? In a motorcycle factory..? Have they gone mad or what? Strikes are for unsolved grievances... not someone else's grievances from another factory.
They never read industrial law like I did, it seems.

And why did this Satish guy take out his revolver? What was his urgency in getting the strike ended?

labour unions have their own politics, and there is always more than what meets the eye.

Kamlesh ji, he fired in the air. No one is killed, its only a criminal incident of trying to use licensed revolver for coercion.

And one more thing, we should not fire anyplace, not only in factory...
