Its not only India, Biker dies attempting to help a biker friend in Hailsham

A MOTORCYCLE ride at the weekend ended in tragedy when a pensioner died while going to the aid of a friend who had come off his bike.

A 62-year-old man came off his Triumph motorcycle at Carters Corner, Hailsham, on Sunday morning and suffered minor injuries.

But his 71-year-old friend who had stopped his bike and went to help him collapsed and died at the scene.

He has been named as Kenneth Jarrett from Mill Road, Hailsham. Police officers are now investigating and appealing for witnesses.

The two friends had been out riding on Sunday morning when police believe they rode around a corner and were met with a stationary concrete mixer lorry. In a bid to avoid the lorry, the 62-year-old rider skidded off the road and received minor injuries.

His friend managed to stop safely and went to help him but collapsed and despite attempts to revive him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said the man is thought to have died of natural causes.

The matter has been referred to the coroner’s officer and a post-mortem is due to take place later in the week.

The 62-year-old man who received minor injuries was taken by ambulance to Eastbourne District General Hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.

We usually witness such scenario in India, but its not only India but even the rest of world is facing similar issues. A biker duo who planned for a weekend ride but only one came back safe.

Do you guys think on freeways we need some sort of discipline in place when it comes to massive vehicles being parked at wrong place and wrong time? And its not only abroad, we see such situation in our day to day ride in India.

I don't see the relevance here! I agree that we need some regulation to govern how/when vehicles can stop on the highway but the pensioner did not die due to the parked truck - death was due to natural causes.

It is sad. But the death is due to the natural causes. I don't see a point in associating it with some government law/policy...

Sad that a 71 year old died. But what does that have to do with riding on a freeway? Or even India for that matter? He could have died such a natural death while taking a walk in the park, at his house or even in sleep. Why is India related to this anyway?

The average age of people in Eastborne England is around 65, it's not really surprising for someone to drop dead doing any activity.

There's an old joke about Eastborne that the shop windows and even car windscreens are Bifocal.

The death is not the focus, the focus here is the stationary vehicle around the corner.

Maybe it was due to the shock of the incident, that he breathed his last..so then there is relevance of the truck there..may he rest in peace..

Yes, i completely agree. People have this nasty habit of parking their vehicles at corners thus preventing people taking a turn to completely see ahead. This is really prevalent in India. We have bus stops located at all the wrong locations, heavy vehicles parked far away and in the middle of the road.

Sadly enough, these people get away with it and the riders fall victim.
