Default Bihar buys 9100 bikes on Dhanteras

Patna: Localities went for big buys in a really big way on Monday, snapping up over 9100 bikes across the state.

Bike sales hit new records. Hero Motocorp (earlier Hero Honda) on Monday sold over 3500 bikes in Bihar, with an average cost of around Rs 45,000.

Through its 23 dealers, Bajaj sold over 3000 bikes on Monday. Its three dealers in Patna alone sold over 700 bikes. The average cost of a bike came around Rs 50,000, said its area manager, Ranjeet Kumar. Bajaj had sold only 2200 bikes in 2010.

TVS Motors also sold over 2000 bikes on Monday. The number of bikes sold last year on Dhanteras was almost equal. Yamaha sold 600 bikes through its 19 dealers in Bihar. Last year, only around 400 bikes were sold on Dhanteras, said Kaushal Kishore, area manager of Yamaha.

Every year, the monthly and the seasonal figures continue going upside... What's this trend pointing out to? I guess the automobile market is not yet saturated enough in India. Its more like "still growing".

Many of these Bikes could be gifts . . . . considering the festivals!

Yes, that's true, but gifts were given last year too. I mean, even if you compare monthly figures, like Sept 2010 vs Sept 2011, you will find that Sept 2011 has more sales. Even in seasonal growth this year's season vs last year's season, often this year's figures are more. So, there is more growth here, unlike some other developed countries.

@ asif: Thanks for pointing out. Edited my post.

An edit to the thread title should suffice

Would have been 9101 bikes had you bought yours a couple of weeks later Sheel

@Samarth : The topic of the thread also needs to be corrected.
@Sheelpriye : I don't think its also only Bihar, its whole of north.
