Arrow Auto Expo 2012: Suzuki launches two-wheelers Hayate and Swish

Ruchita Saxena, NDTV, 05 Jan 2012 | 10:44 AM

110 cc Hayate has been launched in the mass motorcycle segment, while Swish is a ‘value packed scooter’, Suzuki said.

Suzuki Motorcycle launched two vehicles, 110 cc Hayate and 125 cc Swish in the two-wheeler segment at the Auto Expo 2012 in Delhi on Wednesday. 110 cc Hayate has been launched in the mass motorcycle segment, the company announced at the press conference. It also unveiled the new scooter in the two-wheeler segment - the Swish 125 cc. “Swish is a ‘value packed scooter’,” Suzuki said. Suzuki is looking further to strengthen its position in the Indian market. Ichiro Kondo, MD, Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Ltd said, “Suzuki is fully committed to developing two-wheeler products that meet the Indian customers demand by using its dynamic technology.”

Auto Expo 2012: Suzuki Motorcycles launches two new products - Hayate and Swish

New Delhi: Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited (SMIPL) have unveiled two new products at the 2012 Auto Expo being held at the Pragati Maidan. The first one is an 110cc mass market commuter called Hayate and the second is a 125cc scooter called Swish. The Swish, which will be selling alongside the Acess, will be priced at Rs 45,431, ex-showroom Delhi and will be available with the dealers by March this year. Suzuki haven't revealed the pricing of the Hayate but said that it will be priced competitively.

The Hayate derives its name from the Japanese word meaning "swift wind". It gets a 112.8cc engine with a carburetor, however, Suzuki haven’t divulged details about its power output. The Swish in the meanwhile gets a 125cc heart having a power output of 8.7PS.

Auto Expo 2012: Suzuki launches 125cc scooter Swish, 110cc motorcycle Hayate
--Sunny Sen January 5, 2012

It will be a no brainer to say that at the Auto Expo Suzuki Motorcyles launched two-wheelers. But, interestingly, unlike its more prevalent models in the west, it launched a 125cc Scooter, the Swish and 110cc motorcycle, the Hayate at Auto Expo 2012. The 100-125cc category is more than 70 per cent of the Indian motorcycle market and Suzuki wants to be a strong player in this segment. However, the 150cc plus category is growing at a faster pace and also commands more margins. Why wouldn't Suzuki come out with one of the heavier and more powerful machines at the Auto Expo 2012? "We do agree that the 150 plus category is growing faster, but this is major market, so we launched these during this Expo," says Atul Gupta, Vice-President, sales and marketing, SMIPL. "But we do not rule out that we will come out with more powerful bikes." Suzuki having made a mark with bikes like the Hayabusa, coming out with meaner machines will definitely be something that the industry will be watching out for.

The Swish will face a very stiff competition from Hero Maestro and the new Honda Dio. Poor service network of Suzuki also is a negative point.

And the bland styling of the 112 cc Hayate definitely keeps away the customers.

Damn it, no Inazuma Though Swish is good. It's competition can't be with Dio, as it is 125cc and Dio is 110. Suzuki access engine is much peppier than honda 110cc (I have experience of Aviator 110cc and Access 125cc). The 125cc is much punchier than 110cc.

Awww Man!!! suzuki's only digging a grave for itself, have u guys noticed how the "HAYATE" looks so much similar to the Suzuki's "SLINGSHOT". I mean, two bikes with identical looks??? u've gotta be kidding me.

I was really hoping for a 18 - 20bhp motorcycle from suzuki and this is what i get!!!!

what the hell is wrong with the suzuki people? is it "the indians only deserve these ugly looking 100ccs"??
They are not investing anything for a r15,cbr250 challenger, looks like all they wanna make is sorry looking commuters
Go ahead suzuki, dig your own grave.
