The Pune based company is intending to get a 55-56% stake in its Austrian partner. Currently Bajaj has a 47% stake in KTM. Bajaj will have to spend around Rs 360 crores to increase its stake by around 8%, at current day's valuations of the stock.
With this Bajaj hopes to increase its global foothold, increase production of KTM models in India and continue with the joint development work. The majority of the Indian production will be meant for export.
KTM and Bajaj did not respond to these speculations. Recently Stefan Pierer, KTM CEO, had announced that he planned to increase the no. of models being produced at the Chakan plant. He also said that the recently acquired Husqvarna will also be brought to India soon.
The KTM-Bajaj tie up had come at a time when the Austrian country was floundering and now it is the no. 1 manufacturer in Europe surpassing BMW Motorrad.
