According to Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the sales of 500cc+ bikes has doubled in the last one year. From 9000 units the market has grown to 16000 thousand units. This segment is still tiny compared to the overall sales of 10 million motorcycles, but it is growing fast and has a positive future.
Industry analysts see this sector continuing to grow at 25%. Young and old are buying into this sector, with women joining in the fray as well. But even now, parts and service is difficult in non-metros, posing a major handicap to growth. The Northeastern states and Tier II cities are also showing a healthy growth in this sector.
Harley, Hyosung and Royal Enfield have all seen steady growth. Harley increasing its sales from 500 to 1300 units. Hyosung has sold 1200 units in the last 6 months and RE 113432 units in total, a growth of 52%.
