HMSI to sell 65,000 units of Unicorn
Thursday, January 13, 2005
NEW DELHI: Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) said on Wednesday it aimed to sell 65,000 units of 'Unicorn' this fiscal and launched a self-start variant of the 150cc motorcycle.
The new version was priced at Rs 55,982 (on-road, Delhi), about Rs 3,000 more than the existing model, HMSI said.

HMSI, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Honda Motor Company of Japan, said 'Unicorn' sales had already touched 10,000 units per month and it expected to further build on that with the new variant.

Of the total 65,000 sales target for 'Unicorn' during the current fiscal, the company intends to sell 7,500 units of the new self-start model.

HMSI launched 'Unicorn' in October, announcing the company's foray into the growing Indian motorcycle market. Prior to Unicorn's lunch, HMSI was only selling scooters in India.

The company said 26,000 units of 'Unicorn' were sold in the last three months.

Honda unveils self-start Unicorn
22.39 IST 12th Jan 2005

By IndiaExpress Bureau

After rolling out the first motorcycle from its stable in October 2004, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. today introduced the self-start version of the bike and said it aims to sell 65,000 units by March 2005.

This target includes 7500 units of the self-start model, which is available at Rs 55,982 in Delhi, Rs 57,812 in Mumbai, Rs 58,534 in Bangalore and Rs 58,998 in Kolkata, the company said in a statement in New Delhi.

Honda Motorcycle has already sold 26,000 Unicorns in India in the last three months.

''The Unicorn has received an overwhelming response from the market. In the short span three months since its launch, Unicorn sales have already touched 10,000 units level per month. We expect to further build on that through the self-start model,'' HMSI Director (Sales and Marketing) K Iguchi said.

Self-start Unicorn is available in 5 colours and meets Bharat stage II norms, it said.

With a 13.3 bhp engine, Unicorn offers the best pick-up in its class. Fitted with the state-of-the-art Mono-suspension and a strong and flexible Diamond frame, the Unicorn is crafted to render smooth drive, it added.
