Bajaj Auto sues Hero Honda for misleading consumers in India

Bajaj Auto has challenged Hero Honda's claim of being the world's number one two-wheeler manufacturer, and filed a complaint with the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI).

The complaint was filed by Leo Burnett, one of the advertising agencies for Bajaj.

Hero Honda's claim is based on its two-wheeler sales for the year ended March 31, 2002.

Leo Burnett has asked ASCI to intervene and prevent Hero Honda from issuing advertisements claiming it is the world's largest producer of two-wheelers because it is an attempt to mislead consumers.

We can't be sure... it still might be...or it may not be. Can never say..unless the case is settled!

How come it never came in the Indian Press?

These things keep on happening in the advertising field. Sometimes the claims of the companies r just for marketing sake and not for real, and sometimes the claims of the companies who sue other companes may b worng, but all this goes on for some time and then everything is settled.

Few months ago there was a news of HH going against Bajaj when Bajaj did " Ambush Marketing " which was banned in India after the Cola wars. Bajaj Pulsar had the slogan " Born in a gym and not in a studio " which was directly aimed at the HH Passion. But after much dicussions, HH's claims were turned down and now ambush marketing has again started in India ( Mountain Dew / Sprite, Pepsi / Coca Cola ). So all this stuff keeps on happening.

But I still feel that HH may b the largest producer of bikes in the World.

And thru all this we bikers are the losers , coz in the end whatever legal costs they incure are borne by customers , where intead of making cheap ads featuring already ultra-rich celebs , they oughtta improve their bikes and stop nonsensical ads , like the Pulsar150 ( Rita , mai bhi wahi ja raha tha " ad , and the Passion ads ....

grrr , these ads make me puke .
Man will occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of the time he will pick himself up and continue on.

Talking of misleading the consumer ... well plz bring that guy from bajaj in front of me and I'll hit him where it hurts the most.
In their recent ads they are claiming the following power figures
                          Wind125 10.8bhp
                          p150 12bhp
                          p180 15bhp
The power in kw made by these bikes are
                          Wind125 7.95kw
                          p150 8.82kw
                          p180 11.0kw
                          which converts to
                          Wind125 10.66bhp
                          p150 11.82bhp
                          p180 14.75bhp
Now how is misleading the consumer ... some might say that they are roiunding off the power figures in case of pulsars .. then why not claim 11bhp for Wind125????

That way hh can claim 13bhp for CBZ also????

So ne one now planing to sue bajaj?????????
