TVS Motor Unveils 3-Wheeler Prototype, 100-cc Bike Centra
Wednesday, August 20, 2003 TVS Motor Company. On Tuesday, launched its latest offering ‘TVS Centra’, inaugurated ‘TVS Centra’, the 100cc four stroke motorcycle, It is expected to hit the markets in a few weeks time. Though the price has not been announced yet, it is likely to take on models such as Hero Honda’s CD Dawn and Bajaj’s Boxer - thus plugging a hole in TVS Motor product line up. All that TVS Motor officials could say was that the ‘TVS Centra’ would be technologically superior to the competition but its pricing could draw people from the lower end of the popular segment which is currently seeing significant volumes. It has a fuel economy of 100 kms per litre. TVS has invested 100 crore on its new platform. They are also launching a 125CC TVS Victor by September October this year. Read this article : TVS Working on Splendor beater. Worlds largest-selling motorcycle — Hero Honda Splendor — will soon be under fire from familiar quarters. Rival company TVS Motor is developing a 100cc four-stroke bike to take the Splendor head-on. Rumoured to be named Centra, our correspondent Rishad Cooper had an exclusive first ride on the bike at the companys Mysore factory. Although we werent allowed to take any pictures, our first impressions of the bike are extremely favourable. Particularly impressive was the (comparative) performance which doesnt seem to be at a premium for a bike whose main purpose is to provide good mileage. TVS Centra is suppose to be a totally new manufacturing platform and they hope to sell atleast 20000 units of Centra from January 2004. TVS Motor Company Ltd is expected to hike the production capacity of its 150 cc bike, Fiero F2. TVS will also start offering five gears as an option to buyers. The company has expected bikes of 125 cc engine capacity to become the centre of the market in the coming years. TVS is also expected to pit its two-stroke `Max` range of motorcycles to take on competition from entry-level four-stroke motorcycles at highly competitive prices. TVS is also readying to launch a new 100-cc mobike. To be named `Centra`, the bike will target the central part of the motorcycle market and also offer close to 100 kms a litre in terms of mileage. The Centra will be produced at TVS` Mysore facility. |

"TVS will also start offering five gears as an option to buyers."
That is the sickest thing I have ever heard! Five gears is an option! When will these guys learn? I wonder when they will start offering the engine itself as an option! [xx(] |

Max what I think they mean as an option is that they are going to give customer to choose between 4/5 gear bike. Instead of stopping 4gear bike and only making 5gear bikes
