Post NEWS: S.K. Bikes to focus on South India

/India PRwire/ - Ludhiana-based S.K. Bikes Pvt. Ltd. - a name to reckon with in the cycle industry with pan-India presence announed its expansion plans here at Hyderabad today. Addressing media on the sidelines of the Andhra Pradesh Dealers Meet organised in city, Mr. Sachin Lakra, Executive Director, S.K. Bikes Pvt. Ltd. said that the company has reached a landmark daily production of 2000 bicycles and with the increasing demand of its product it will soon increase it to 2500. Starting from 7000 bicycles production in 2002, S.K. Bikes has reached six lakh production last year and became the 5th biggest bicycle producer in the country.

He also disclosed that the company has planned major expansion by way of acquiring a state-of-the-art paint workshop or to set up one and an R&D centre. The company has earmarked Rs 5 crore rupees for its expansion plans. Once it is done with its expansion, the production capacity will go upto 3000 bicyles per day. This enable the company to become the third largest bicycle producer in the country. The expansion program will be completed in next one year. Currently it has a sales turnover of Rs 100croe(FY 2009). And expects to register 25 growth in the fiscal year 2009-2010.

S.K. Bikes is to focus on South India and increase its presence significantly, Mr. Lakra added. The company plan to focus more on Tamil Nadu and Karnataka as these two states are buying over five lakh bicycles every year for free distribution to girl students under Sarvasiksh Abhiyan. Under this program, all states put together are distributing 20 lakh free bicycles every year to school going girls.

Mr. Rajesh Kapoor, Director - Sales, S. K. Bikes Pvt. Ltd. disclosed that the company had sold a total of around 6 lakh bicycles last year and aims to sell 7 lakh in the current fiscal. Mr. Kapoor added that S.K. Bikes is committed to providing bicycle riders with innovative new products and has unveiled its new 2009 collection recently. It also manufacturers spares and bicycle components. It also exports spares to some countries.

S.K. Bikes is best known in India for manufacturing Panther, Style, Volcano, Tweety brand of bicycles. There range of bicycles includes Suspension bikes, 24" and 26" MTBs, Ladies bikes, kids bikes, SLR & Racing and Roadster range. S.K. Bikes manufacturers more than 100 models of bicycles and the price range goes up to Rs.3,400/-, informed Mr. Vinod Jain, Managing Partner, Rajanik Cycle Agencies, the sole distributor of S.K. Bikes in Andhra Pradesh.

S. K. Bikes has achieved amazing heights in just after six year of its launch (in 2002) and is a name to reckon with in the cycle industry. Within a short span, the company has succeeded in making its presence in the domestic market covering the several states in India. Presently the company has a network of 50 distributors, 300 dealers and 1000 sub-dealers.

The cicyle sales in India is growing at the rate of 25 per cent per annum and has great potential. We are unable to tap its potential as successive governments fail to encourage usage of bicycles in India. Bicycle is the layman’s vehicle for commutation. It produces zero pollution. The governments needs to build seperate cycle tracks, if its usage has to go up in the country. India is the world’s largest producer of bicycles and 99.9% of them are produced in Ludhiana, they added.
