TVS Motor Plans Foray Into Sports Bikes Segment HYDERABAD, OCT 17: TVS Motor Company, a two-wheeler major, plans to enter manufacturing sports bikes for the common public once the domestic market respondse positively for the sports models. The company, which is in the high-end motor vehicle racing sports for over a decade, has been exclusively bringing out high-end versions for its participants with the help of European technology collaboration. “The company has the capability to manufacture sports two-wheelers and waiting for the market to develop in India. We have a technical collaboration with Engines Engineering, an Europe-based company engaged in manufacturing high-end sports two-wheelers to manufacture at its Hosur plant in Tamil Nadu, said Arvind Pangoankar, general manager (racing), TVS Motor Company. Speaking to FE here on the sidelines of a press conference on MRF National Motorcross Championship being held in Hyderabad on October 19, 2003, Mr Pangoankar said that the company was spending close to five per cent of the total revenues in research and development, which includes racing sports. “TVS, in association with Engines Engineering, is engaged in developing a high-end sports motorcycles, exlusively for racing sport,” he said, adding, “The same process can be replicated for the common public too once the market picks up for sports vehicles.” Racing is considered to be the main source for TVS to test market its products. “It is ideal platform for the company to study and identify the problems before bringing into the market with high quality and ruggedness,” Mr Pangoankar said. For over a decade, the racing sport helped the company to bring out some of the good and quality products which are currently under stable and this racing continue to provide more value to the company in future too, he added.

Hi,
Thats great news. Coming years are set 4 great forays of hi-power bike in the indian bike market. There will be great competition and more and more foreign players(the likes of ducati, triumph, aprilia) will enter the markets.(these are only my prediction considering the present change the top level of the indian bike market is witnessing) And there will be more "bike wars" in these forums. Never expect a sports bike from TVS. Even if they comes they will be 4 speed gear box, drum brakes,etc.
