MUMBAI: The police have seized eight flashy, high-end motorcycles, priced between Rs 7 lakh and Rs 13 lakh, which were registered in Mumbai with
the help of fake documents. A car dealer, some builders and one IT businessman are in the police net and investigators suspect some Bollywood personalities owning expensive bikes could have bought their mean machines from this gang. Three of the bikes recovered were sold for Rs 7 lakh each and one cost Rs 13 lakh. The trail started from a second-hand car dealer, Kunjan Choudhary, who was arrested recently from Jogeshwari by zonal deputy commissioner Niket Kaushik's special squad. Choudhary told interrogators that he collected the bikes from Nadir Ali, who is absconding. Cops recovered three bikes from Choudhary, who also led investigators to the five other motorcycles, which were recovered from a few city-based builders and an IT businessman. Investigators are now on the trail of some film personalities who use such high-end bikes and are collecting their transaction details. Officials will also verify documents with the help of the RTO to ascertain if they were shipped into the country legally. Ali has been in the business for the past two years and would purchase parts of high-end motorbikes from Singapore and bring them to India in pieces; that way, he would attract less duty. He would then assemble the bikes in a garage in Mumbai and then give them to Choudhary for sale, after promising him a commission. Sub-inspector Nitin Patil said, "Ali was involved in other cases and might have fled the country as he feared arrest in one of those cases.'' Ali used to register the bikes with the RTO after submitting forged documents, officials said. Assistant police inspector Rajesh Padvi added that two of the bikes recovered from Choudhary did not even have number plates. 8 superbikes in police net - Mumbai - Cities - The Times of India |
