  • Old Kinetic Comet(Hyosung GT250) or the New Honda CBR 250

    Hi all,
Im a bit confused between the Comet(2005 launch,India) and the all new CBR 250.

    Hyosung Comet -

I have driven a Comet alot and im in love with its twin cylindered engine and the power the bike delivers. However, its been 6 years now since the limited editioned Comet maked its debut to India.Every Comet owner im talking to is selling their comet for a price of 1.10 or even higher even though its done 12000+ kms.But that said,if i get a good conditioned very well maintained comet for 95K,id rather give it a second thought.Otherwise there is no point in investing money in a half dead bike.

    Honda CBR -

As far as the all new CBR 250 is concerned, the bike looks very promising.I liked the aerodynamic design and the bike is enough powerful to top 160kmph or even higher.

One more point to be taken into consideration - Performance wise are twin cylindered engines better than single cylindered engines ?

But the question still remains - A good conditioned Hyosung Comet or the new Honda CBR 250 ???

@all members on xbhp - kindly guide me as to what would be a great choice.

    Thankyou !!!!

If affordability is not an issue then go for honda with out any second thought. Imho, a new bike is always better than a second hand one.

CBR250R any day!!! What would you do if you need a part for Comet 250? Where do you source one?

PS - Sorry to say, I find this question dumb

Old, without service support whatsoever Vs New, with service support and much more reliable than the koreans at a slight premium of 50k.

Wow! Thats a close call if you ask me..!

the new cbr 250, no doubt in that....
i wish the comet were still available in india ...with so many performance bikes coming into the market, a relaunch of comet would be good...
No its not about speed, its about turning and shifting those gears!

It only depends on your definiation of whats better....

                  its better (cheaper) to produce
its better (easier) to maintain as lesser moving parts
its better in torque due to single cylinder status and hence enjoys good low end torque

a 6 year old Comet with just 12000kms on the odo?

in all probability... there's going to be a lot more the current owner is lying to you about.

absolutely. a properly maintained Comet is definitely worth 95 grand.

even higher? maybe. unlikely tho... in my opinion.
i haven't ridden the CBR250R yet... so i won't compare it to the Comet.

keep in mind... the Comet is capable of going faster... for longer.

yes. higher up in the revs (in terms of performance)
but again... i haven't ridden the CBR250R yet.

oh... the Comet v-Twin is fun to ride.

                    tough call. you decide.

i'd pick the Comet... if it's at 95 grand.

but having heard that the CBR might accelerate quicker than the N250R up to 80 ish kmph. hmmmmmmm.

Seriously Xionite once a guy rides a comet...there is no 250cc like it !!! even the ninja iv ridden can't compare to the lion's roar - the mighty Comet Lets see.im still looking for a good one.but if i get a genuinely good conditioned comet,id rather spend more 25-30K to fit it with performance parts n change all air/oil filters, make the bike completely FRESH n have fun riding it.this also saves my money from paying 1.5Lakh+ for a new 250cc.It would be a complete restoration of the bike which no one pointed out. Thanks for your help.

I have a question and hence I chose to resurrect this dead thread instead of going for a new one .....

                          The question is,

Will the spares new of new Hyosung GT250 work on the Comet 250 ?

With Hyosung/Garware is poised to launch the new GT250 soon, with service and spares back-up, I am optimistic that the spares would work on the former Comet well too.
