Talking >>>Finally Kutch trip goes into my diary<<<

We were planning to ride some where in this month but place was not decided....shimla was in mind then ooty.... After quite some time it was decided why not Kutch. Its high time that we start with east and west states than North South we do every time.

Also since we were in short of days so it had to be a close location.

The Kutch trip started on November 6th, 2009.....here is a quick log and few photos..

No of riders: 3

Gaurav on R15
Angelo on P220 aka fastest Indian
and myself Om on Karizma...

I'm also sharing the picasa link of the photos just in case if the pics are not visible in the thread...

Our Route:

Mumbai - Vasad - Bagodra - Rajkot - Anjar - Mandvi - Koteshwar - Lakhpat - Bhuj - Khavda - Bhuj - Bhachau - Chotila - Bagodra - Vasad - Mumbai.

The Story: Day 1 - 6th November

Gaurav had some business work in Rajkot so he left 2 days before me and Angelo can leave on Saturday only so we decided all will leave on our dates and meet up in Rajkot.

Reading from Mumbai

So on November 6th I left after work from my office place in Mumbai around 3pm. I was going to ride only till Anand and next day in Borsad Angelo was going to catch me there.

I started slow and after Manor I speedup till Vapi, that is where the new McDonald's has come up. I took a snack break here.

From this point the traffic till Surat was horrible.

I refueled at Surat toll so I don't need to stop till Anand.

Surat to Vadodara is 6 lane highway and is much complete now so doing this is the night is not risky at all.

By night 11pm I had reached at my folks place in Anand.

Had a light snack and was off snoring.

Day 2: 7th November

Day 2 reading

I got up around 9am and received a message from Angelo that he left Mumbai around 5.30am and will be in Borsad around noon so I started getting ready and left for my Gurus ashram near Borsad.

Ashram in Bhadran

As soon as I got a call from him that he was at Vasad, I left from the Ashram to head towards Borsad circle.

Took a stop at the ATM in Borsad.

By 11.30am I was at the circle in Borsad. In 40mins Angelo arrived. Just took a moment to cool down and started ride to Bagodra.

Choose your ride...

Its just 95 kms from here so we reached in just 1 and a half hour.

This patch passed through some quite neat farms. But the road was not that good. Some patches need work.

At Bagodra we took halt for lunch. All vegetarian.

After lunch it was a non - stop ride to Rajkot where Gaurav was expecting us.

We were in Rajkot around 4pm. Gaurav met us at yagnik circle and led us to the hotel.

We dumped our stuff and headed to his work site for a look.

As soon as he was done we went to a popular South Indian restaurant to fill in our noisy stomach.

Man the food was delicious.

After full satisfaction we left for our hotel. Enjoyed a nice English movie dubbed in Hindi which made the serious movie sound hilarious.

We slept early so we can start early tomorrow.

From here the actual ride begins....will post the next chapter tomorrow.

DAY 3: 8th November, 2009

Though we decided last night to start early but as usual IST we got up late and left almost by noon. But no problem today we didn't had to cover much distance as we were going to ride only till Anjar. Its Gaurav's native place and he decided to take a halt there.

Day 3 reading

We started around 10.45am and by 2pm we took a lunch halt some where around the point where you bypass Little Rann of Kutch.

After lunch we went little off road towards the wind mill side to take some photos of bikes with the windmill in the backdrop.

After taking some 40-50 shots we headed to Anjar town - a non stop ride as its not far from here.

We checked in into Manav Residency. Man it was an amazing hotel. And as till now we were staying in AC room so here too we continued for a AC room.

Hotel Manav Residency

We had a nice vegetarian dinner and were off to bed. No movies today.

DAY 4: 9th November, 2009

We got up and ordered breakfast in room. The Manav special and some drinks.

Day 4 reading

Today we started very late, post noon. But again today's ride was even shorter. Mandvi is just 80kms away from here.

Road was short in width but still in just 1 hour we were at the Mandvi entrance.

We quickly headed towards the beach to find a decent stay. And found an affordable place.

After keeping our stuff in our rooms we headed towards the beach and also tried to take our bikes on the sand too.

Its not easy parking bikes on the beach sand.

After taking some shots on the beach we headed towards the Vijay Vila fort where scenes of Lagaan were shot. Its a neat place.

Took some lot of shots of this place...

By night fall we were back in our beach hotel and had the worst Chinese food ever. We should have gone to the market area.

The beach has very less food options.

Oh I forgot to mention we also headed to the ship building area before the night set in.

It takes almost over 2 years to build a ship.

Today before going to sleep we decided how to cover the rest of the places within 3 days as we were running short of time.

Next chapter will be up tonight...

DAY 5: 10th November, 2009

Today I got ready first and till then time Gaurav and Angelo get ready I took the bike on the beach to take some neat shots.

The sunrise was beautiful, enjoyed taking those shots.

After everyone was ready we started ride for Koteshwar temple which is on the west most point of Kutch.

DAY 5 reading

We decided to have some light snack on the way. So just after some 100kms we took a small tea and biscuits halt.

We found those roles which you get in Pune. They were delicious.

After this point the road was in a little bad shape. Some big potholes and some patch under construction.

It was bumpy all the way till Koteshwar.

The first view of Koteshwar was interesting.

The sights we saw were breathtaking. Clear transparent water and full windy atmosphere.

would love to know history of this place

After visiting Koteshwar and Narayan Sarovar we started heading towards Lakpat fort.

It took us over 2 hours to explore the entire place of which half an hour went just looking at the Rann.

View of Rann from Lakpat fort west side

After a drink break inside the fort we took shots of the village huts and were quickly on the road to Bhuj.

The way these huts are made is just a representation of Kutch artisan.

Evening was setting in and we wanted to reach Bhuj in day light so as roads were neat from the fort to Bhuj city we decided to ride little faster.

As soon as we saw the sign of Bhuj 25kms we then slowed down.

Ones entering the city we quickly started hunting for a stay and guess what....we found one of the most expensive place - The Ilark Hotel. As we had saved a lot on the fuel so we decided to go ahead with the expensive option.

We had a delicious dinner with a welcome drink. And enjoyed the moments of the ride.

Also before going back to our room we took a ride to the market place to try out the local ice cream gola. I would love to know if I can find this in Mumbai.

Next chapter will be up tomorrow morning....

DAY 6: 11th November 2009

Though we planned to get up early today but in AC room and posh hotel those eyes never open up till 9am.

We ordered an excellent South Indian breakfast which came with multiple combination. It was a delight and filling.

Food photography can be fun but at the cost of food getting cold.

So just coffee will do good.

Today's reading

Today's destination was the final one to cover - Khavda and the Kala donger near it from where you can have a good view of India bridge and the Rann of Kutch.

Khavda is not much far from Bhuj. Just an hour ride if you keep your speed near 80.

After reaching the Khavda the first place we went was the Kala Donger. The road to the mountain is tricky. Zig zag and up and down curves. After some 35mins we were finally we were at the top.

After spending some time up and having some interaction with the military guys at the top we started descent towards the India Bridge.

Withing 40mins we were at the gates of India bridge. Without permission no one is allowed beyond this point.

We then left towards the Rann to take some shots with all bikes on that salt area. Almost an hour went in that. Also never knew those salt pans are very soft, so if you take your bike little ahead so chances are that the weight will sink.

Later we ripped all the way to Bhuj and started our return ride back to Mumbai.

It was getting dark now but we rode till wherever possible we can reach by midnight.

So after 5-6 hours of riding we were near Chotila town which is 50kms away from Rajkot.

Found a comfortable stay and a neat place to eat.

And guess what again today too we found an AC room big enough to fit us all 3.

DAY 7: 12th November, 2009

Today any how we had to reach home before sun down so we started early as possible. We had breakfast right below the Hotel and left that place around 9am

Final day reading

We did non stop to Vasad and from there Mumbai is just 5-6 hours. The highway is 6 lane till Vapi so keeping speed near 100 is not a problem.

By 5pm we were having snack in Vapi McDonald's. And by 8.30pm we entered Mumbai from Thane side.

Final good byes and I think by 9pm all must have reached their own place.

So the Kutch Trip is now finally in my diary.

Looking forward for the Kanyakumari trip....... Coming in 2010.....
