1 Bullet Thunderbird – Nachiket Athavale
    P180 – Amit Jadhav (amitredefined)
    CBZ – Vinod Sairam
    Unicorn – Dhananjay Salve

Ride – Pune – Melghat –Pune

    Day 1 – Pune – Nagar – Aurangabad – Jalna - Lonar 415kms
It was almost a sleepless previous night due to excitement of going for the long bike ride. Being married with a kid, there was some initial resistance but finally I got their nod.
It was decided to assemble at the Yerwada chowk at 6:30AM. But as usual, there were some hiccups and finally everybody arrived at 7:30 AM and we started at 7:45AM. Bandya the Batman who is the leader came to see us off as he was unable to join because of typhoid
Dhananjay had to fill petrol, so he took and we decided to meet him at the pump on Highway SH60. There was some goof up and we never found him . Finally we sms’ed him to meet at Saradwadi for Tea and Breakfast halt. We reached Saradwadi at 9:00AM distance covered was 68kms. Finally everybody re-grouped there. We had “Vada Paav”, “Pohe” , “Misal” and Tea for breakfast . We started our journey towards Ahmednagar (Nagar) at 9:45AM where we decided to re-group is anybody looses the group
We arrived at Nagar at 10:30AM (122 kms). From there we moved on to Nevasa Phata and took a “Butt Break” (185kms) . Next destination was Aurangabad for Lunch. We reached Aurangabad/Chikalthana 1:05PM (254kms). Found a hotel named Abhijit and we had a good lunch out there. At 2:30PM, we were back on road. In the mean time Vindy and Mnadar taked up their bikes. The next re-group point was decided as “Sindhkhed Raja” after passing Jalna. The group was disorganized near Jalna as half the bikers took the internal city road and rest took the Jalna bypass. Finally everybody re-grouped at “Singhkhed Raja” at 4:10PM (340kms) for a tea break at “Mama Bhanja” snacks center. Our initial destination was Akola but as it was getting late, we decided to have a halt at “Lonar”. Everybody moved as group towards Lonar. On the way we asked 3 times for the way to lonar and everybody was giving different directions and shortcuts. Finally we decided to take long route with GOOD roads to Lonar. We arrived at Lonar at 5:30PM (415kms). We found a lodge just opposite the Bus stand named Krushna Lodge. We hired a big room for all of us for Rs 850/-. Took shower and visited the market. Took a tea break at one road side Tapri. The local police stopped up while we were walking towards the Tapri and inquired why we were in their city
Lonar is the only place on the earth where there is a CRATOR formed due meteoroid impact. We decided to visit this CRATOR the next day early morning. So we decided to call it a day, had our dinner in some cheap hotel (which was the only source) and had a peaceful sleep
Good roads were the highlight of the day
Will update about the other day’s and photos upon approval.

    Default Day 2 – 22nd Dec Lonar to Chikaldara 330kms TOTAL 745kms

As decided, we got up early and went to the CRATER at around 7:30AM. Due to the impact, there is huge lake formed of approx. 1km diameter of salt water. The view was stunning. Was terrified to imagine what will happen if such a big piece of rock hits the earth in such a big piece of rock in near future. Took some pictures and decided to return to hotel to hit the roads again. Left Lonar at 9:30AM, took a petrol and breakfast break at “Mehkar” (440kms) around 10:00AM. In breakfast at small hotel “Ganesh”, we had the local favorite “Dal wada” along with other items . Left Mehkar at 10:30AM. The next re-group point was decided to be Akola. The road got narrow by now and instead of 4 lane highway, The road was a two lane highway since Jalna. We cruised through Malegaon and many small villages. By now everbody started looking at us as we cross their village as all 6 bikes moving together was a treat to watch. We followed the round robin method of leading and trailing . While riding so that the distance would appear small. We reached Akola at 12:10PM (545kms). Had a refuel and tea break. The next destination was Akot where we reached at 13:35PM (596kms) where we had our lunch at “Swad and Sehet” hotel . Some local helped us with the route to Chikaldara as we were bit confused.
From Akot there are 2 routes to Chikaldara, 1 through the Forest (Melghat) and other the normal route via “Paratwada”. No prizes for guessing as we decided the Forest route . The roads which were very good till now started getting bad and worse . We enquired the locals of the correct route and they directed us but warned of the Animals. We started our journey from the very dense Forest. This Jungle has 54 Tigers along with many other animals such as panthers, wild bores, deers etc
We reached the Melghat Tiger reserve entrance after travelling few kms from the forest and ghats. The entrance is at “Katkhali” (619kms). We paid a fee of Rs. 15/- per bike and Rs. 20/ per person to enter. The journey through the forest was breathtaking. Mostly ghats. After travelling for 2 hours 20 mins, we reached “Semadoh” at 5:35PM (716kms). The roads which were bad suddenly became good 30kms before Semadoh. There were many speed breakers in the forest . The locals informed that normally the animals cross the roads and there are chances of accidents. So to prevent overspeeding, the speed breakers are in place. After reaching Semadoh we took a tea break. As it was getting late, we decided to call a day in Semadoh instead of Chikaldara. The locals informed us to check Forest Department guest house as there were no other hotels in that area as it was a very small village in middle of the forest. When enquired at the Guest house, it was full due to some forest law seminars . So we decided to go to Chikaldara.
Now came the tricky part. There were 2 routes again . 1 which was almost 85kms through Paratwada and other through the Jungle of 24kms . So it was kind of choosing between the Devil and the deep sea. We chose the devil J. We decided to take the risk as the route was very short and we were tired. Upon reaching the entry point of that route, a forest guard stopped us and the check point and informed that the route gets closed at 6:00PM and told us to take the 85km route. As it was 7:00PM, we convinced him by telling him that we are from Pune and are really tired. After lot of nagging, he agreed but he said its your risk as the Forest is full of wild animals and it was pitch dark around 7:10PM. If something happens, he won’t take any responsibility and asked us to stay together all the time.
Here the fun part began. We were all terrified as it was an unknown territory and forest was dangerous. The next 24kms were one of the rides of lifetime. We all stuck together with Mandar leading on his Machismo followed by me, Manish, Dhanya, Vindy and Nachiket. We kept the same sequence and were very vigilant. The ghats appeared never ending as we kept on riding. We didn’t dare to stop and take any pee break even though everybody needed it J. After riding for almost 45 mins, a ray of hope appeared as we reached the other check point. The guard checked all the bikes and the receipts which we took at Khatkali. He also informed that the same day early morning he saw 2 Tigers J. We released our “pressure” there. To our surprise we still had to cover 7-8kms of ghat and jungle before we reach to Chikaldara. Finally around 8:20PM we reached Chikaldara which was in dark due to Load Shedding (No electricity). We managed to find a hotel call “Utkarsha” and unloaded all our stuff. He charged Rs 1200 for 2 rooms. It was freezing cold in Chikaldara as it’s a Hill station (745kms). The temperature may be around 4-5 C. We got fresh (yes, using a freezing water) and went to Dinner where there was a fireplace. Got ourselves warmed and went to bed
Highlights/Lowlights – Bad roads in Forest, awesome and dense forest and night journey of around 30kms from the forest full of tigers was simply out of this world

    Default Day 3 – 23rd Dec Chikaldara – Semadoh – Paratwada- Dhamngaon – Chikaldara 135 kms

    Day 3 – 23rd Dec Chikaldara – Semadoh – Paratwada- Dhamngaon – Chikaldara 135 kms TOTAL 870kms

Morning began with hot water problem . Somehow we managed to get a bucket each and took bath. Around 9AM we went to a small snack place called “New India Café and Nasta House”. We took our tea and breakfast. The day was for local sightseeing. Chiakldara has some historic importance apart for being a Hill station. Going back to Mahabharat, Bheem along with Pandavas came to this place during “Agyatwaas”. During that time Bheem worked as a cook in Gavilgad at King Virats place which is 12 kms from Chikaldara. The place is now called Vairat . Gavilgad fort is supposedly built by Nizam some 300 years ago. He killed “Kichak” and threw him in a valley (dara) and that’s the reason the place got its name “Kichakdara” which was renamed later to Chikaldara . We visited “Bheem Kund” and the valley and few other points. The views were stunning. As this place had historic importance, we saw lots of Educational trips Took our Lunch at a beautiful resort Satpura. We wanted to stay here but it was too expensive Rs 4500 per night . So we decided to continue with the same hotel Utkarsha and paid him advance for next day. It was 2:30PM and we were getting bored . So talked to some locals who informed that there is a Jungle Safari at Semadoh and if we go there before 5PM, we would be able to go for Safari. So around 3PM we decided to go for Safari. As many of us were running low on fuel, we decided to tank up at Chikaldara. And to our surprise, there was no fuel and the fuel would be available from 30th Dec !!!!!!! man ……. They told us to go to Paratwada which was around 40kms for fuel.
We re-grouped, had a small discussion. Everybody had enough fuel to go to Semadoh (30kms) for Safari and from there to Paratwada (55kms). So instead of going directly to Paratwada, we went to Semadoh. Paid the bike and biker fee at the forest check point. Started the journey through the jungle at 3:45PM which we crossed at night yesterday. The jungle was very dense and awesome. We were lucky to cross it yesterday at night without any problems . No vehicles, no traffic. We reached Semadoh around 4:15PM for Safari. The Forest officials informed that we need a car for Safari and informed us about where we can get a van on hire. We hired a local van and guide and paid the fees. In all 620 Rs. They took us on a Safari for about 15kms. Unfortunately we didn’t see any animals. There are almost 54 tigers in the Melghat Tiger Reserve. We took our tea break at Semadoh. At 6:50PM we started our journey towards Paratwada (45kms). It was again ghats and jungle all the way. Only conforting fact was, we were out of the Tiger Land . We reached Paratwada around 8:05PM. Refueled the bikes and started our journey back to Chikaldara. The locals informed to take “Dhaman Gaon” route which was short one. We again started our journey through few villages, jungles, ghats and reached Chikaldara at 9:20PM (32kms). Went to hotel, had our dinner at the same place where we had our Lunch and went to sleep.
First time I had to travel almost 100+ for fuel
Highlights – Good tourist points at Chikaldara and journey to Semadoh
Lowlights – Bad roads, 100+ kms ride for fuel, Didn’t see a single animal during Safari
