The Riders: alankarmisra (R15), MotorBreath (P200), spiderweb (ZMA), aman_pulsating (R15)

The Route:
Day 1: Delhi – Ambala – Ludhiana – Jalandhar – Amritsar – Wagah Border – Batala – Pathankot – Madhopur (650kms)

I started with the Mumbai guys on 2nd June (5am) from Delhi, a day after the Pune guys left. The plan was to catch-up with them (Pune) at Pathankot, but somehow they (Mumbai) convinced me to do Amritsar and still catch-up. So we visited Golden Temple, rushed to Wagah Border to witness the ceremony, and then took the NH15 towards Pathankot. I'm not sure how determined were we to catch-up with them, so now no more mention of this cat 'n' mouse story from my side!

This Sadarji wanted to pose with all of us!

And then we made him click us...

The Indian side!

The Pakistan side!

The room at Madhopur (town after Pathankot, last town at Punjab border)

Day 2: Madhopur - Samba - Udhampur - Srinagar

Day 3: Srinagar - Sonmarg (90kms)

We started from Madhopur and bypassed Jammu city by taking the Samba route. Its advisable as the roads are good and gets little shorter too. Its all ghats after Udhampur,
reached Jawahar tunnel around 8-9pm, got the first glimpse of the beautiful Kashmir valley (Titanic point) where all we could see was the stars above the pitch black below!

Srinagar was still 50kms away, straight road, pitch dark, no living being, it had rained and we could also see the lightning, and the cross-winds were adding to the whole effect.

Saw few vehicles stalled on the road, me wondering if there its a railway crossing, but a huge tree had fallen accross the road as lightnening had struck it! Waited for 10-15mins, but sensing that no help would come soon, decided the lift the bikes over to the other side, and carried on to reach Srinagar around 1am. Met Inder at the hotel (no he didnt come out to escort us, just shouted from the lobby, we could only hear his voice), and went off to sleep.

Heard a continuos knocking at our door around 7-8am and I knew nobody would get-up, or if someboy does, the guest (Inder) would receive a punch in the face!

We got up around 10-11am, only to find Pune guys had left for Drass. I was not surprised as they had waited for us for a day. Our departure from Srinagar got delayed as spiderweb's bike has a possible puncture, and it took time to find a puncture shop. It was already 2pm and it started raining, so we halted for food at a park opposite Dal Lake, and thought of spending the day in a houseboat and starting off next morning. But the weather opened up by 3pm, and we decided to move ahead till Sonmarg, as Drass was not possible before dark.

Dal Lake

First view of Sonmarg..

Exiting Sonmarg...
