  • Ride to The City of Goddess Mahalakshmi KOLHAPUR

Will ride to "KOLHAPUR - The City of Goddess Mahalaxmi" today i.e. on 16th Dec 2010.

The Ride was planned well in advanced in November 2010. Previously my Cousin brother planned to join me for this ride, but unfortunately (fortunate for me, as i like to travel single, hate to ride with pillion) he has outed himself from the ride because lack of leaves (big headache for bikers). On 15th Dec 2010 jammed with high cold, body pain, went to medical shop got some medicine, had dinner took medicine and slept for almost 9 hrs to get myself fresh for next day.

Things need to keep ready before ride :

1). My ZMR in perfect condition : As on monday i changed its engine oil, cleaned its chain perfectly, installed Osram Night Breaker, Clutch Setting, Nitrogen checked in tyres.

    2) Most Important :- Bike Documents : License, RC Card, PUC certificate, Insurance Papers.

3). For Safe Riding and get rid of Cold :- As the temp is consistently falling down and for safe riding well equipped with Riding Jacket, Gloves, Helmet.

4). First Aid Kit and some medicine to fight against cold.

    Travelling Plan :- Route : Mumbai - Pune - Satara - Kolhapur
Leave Mumbai (Vile Parle West) in afternoon near by 2 pm.
Reach Pune, G2G with old friends, night stay.
Will leave pune early morning by say 5:30 or 6 am to kolhapur.
Total Distance :- Approx. 470 km one way.

It often takes a humiliating overtake to understand that an early jump off the red light won't help them lead the pact. All I want to say is - Go after green.

                            Panhala City and Fort

Some Information about Panhala : Panhala (Marathi: पन्हाळा) is a city and a Hill station Municipal Council (3177 feet above sea level) 18 km northwest of Kolhapur, in Kolhapur district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Panhala is the smallest city in Maharashtra and being a Municipal Council the city is developing rapidly. The city sprawls in the Panhala fort commands a panoramic view of the valley. The main historical attraction here is the Panhala fort. There are many places of interest, each with its share of haunting anecdotes.

So got in morning, fresh had breakfast and left for Panhala, it is around 18kms from Kolhapur towards Ratnagiri.

                            On the way towards Panhala

                            Exploring Panhala :

                            Valley from Panhala Fort :

                            Prati Shivaji (Shiva Kashid):

In 1659, after the death the Bijapur general Afzul Khan, in the ensuing confusion Shivaji took Panhala from Bijapur.Siddi Johar to lay siege to Panhala. Shivaji fought back and they could not take the fort. The siege continued for 4 months, at the end of which all provisions in the fort were exhausted and Shivaji was on the verge of being captured.
Under these circumstances, Shivaji decided that escape was the only option. He gathered a small number of soldiers along with his trusted commander Baji Prabhu Deshpande and, on 13 July 1660,they escaped in the dead of night to flee to Vishalgad. Baji Prabhu and a barber, Shiva Kashid, who looked like Shivaji, kept the enemy engaged, giving them an impression that Shiva Kashid was actually Shivaji.

                            Thats all from Panhala Fort..
Replace the words "I have to" with "I choose to" and notice the difference in how you feel.
