Hi,

I also had plans for Leh biking trip on the 15th of July 2011, but unluckily it doesn't seems to work out as expected because of a good strength backing out at this stage... But I am all set, could you advice of a group planning for a Leh trip on the same dates in which I can pool in...
I have got all the plannings done and leaves sanctioned, so just don't want to let this opportunity go wasted like this..

Thanks,
Arun

Sunny and bright in September?? I really doubt it man.. Although google seems to agree with September.

I went there about 2 years back in a car and as early as June the temperatures dropped to below zero in chushul and zanskar valley (over the night of course).

Are you sure september is better?

Yes, sure I will upload my trip log with some details and pictures also.

And for above plans of September, yes it can be a tricky time because you can have roads near Barlacha covered in snow and temperature below 0 degree Celsius.

As per me 1st or 2nd week of august can be a good time with some pros and cons:

Pros:
1) BRO has started constructing roads in full flow, so you will get to drive on more patches of tarmac road.
2) You can get to see more lakes like Suraj-Taal because most of the ice would have been melted.

Cons:
1) If you are riding from Delhi or any where below from south, You have to ride in the rain which will decrease your speed.
2) This rain will make your job of riding your bike at passes very difficult one because roads at these places are untarred roads and with lots of pot holes. With rains these roads become muddy and you don't get an idea how deep a pot hole is!
We faced this situation at Rohtang because of the rain. It was too muddy to drive. And traffic jams were making it worse. Only insane could have driven there! We went against the advice of at least 10 to 15 riders who were returning back as they could not drive or thought it was too risky to drive through the mud. Finally we were successful at our attempt, but other riders were right it was very risky to drive there.

You can face this situation at many passes if you go in august! Good thing is it can add more thrill to your ride though
