Should be mostly good. I did a Delhi-Ara (Bihar) ride sometime in June. It was mostly good roads, if not great. Best part is the Kanpur and Allahabad By-pass. Both are really long flyovers, so you won't have any unwanted living beings running across the roads.

No idea about the Mohaniya-Sasaram-Barhi stretch. From Barhi to Kolkata, road conditions are lovely, except for Panagarh where the highway is a pathetic two-laner with broken tarmac and sans divider, that runs through the town. This is the only area where you will be losing time.

Do let me know if you need anything in specific.

        @dreamseller

I recently completed my journey on NH2 this Diwali(2011). As there were no reservations left in any train. So best way i thought was to drive alone on my p135. Got leaves from the office. Started @ 0600 hrs in teh morning From Badarpur (delhi) and reached home @1600 hrs. The road from Delhi to Allahabad is in good shape I must say that beside few streches nearing Kanpur. Try to cross Agra before 8:30 in the morning otherwise you will struck in traffic. Traveled numerous times on this strech till Kanpur by car and bike both. AFter crossing Agra there will be less Dhaba's. But road is completely awesome. The continous flyovers which start from Jaswantnagar and end up in crossing Itawah are too good.

BEside I love cruising @ 70 kmph on my switty.. so you may love it also..

        Ride safe..

the roads are good and thats not the main problem. the main problem is safety during night especially near bihar and WB region.

Yes, I agree. Should have mentioned that. Although I crossed Kanpur at around 10pm, so you have an idea that the ride was mostly a night ride. But yes, I'd suggest you either stop for the night at nearby towns or plan your ride in a way that you cross Bihar during day. WB should not pose much of a problem, and neither Jharkhand, contrary to popular belief.

Thanks for the info. Are there enough Fueling Stations that work throughout the day and night ?
A friend of mine is planning a Saddle Sore 1600 K on this stretch !
So he needs to fuel every 300-400 kms.

The Panagarh stretch which Dreamseller was talking about is the most time consuming part... its around 10kms stretch and might take approximately 1hour or more depending on ur riding... went there 2 months before.... For sround 5kms it is 2 lane without any divider and few kms before that you will encounter the huge traffic of trucks and cars, on your side of the 4 lane highway... once u cross this part then till Kolkata the road is awesome..
there are enough number of fueling stations but i don't know how many of those are open at night..

P.S: Safety is a concern at night time (even in WB region) though it is absolutely fine during day...

If he needs normal petrol, then yes. But ATMs might be a pain, coupled with the fact that a lot of them don't accept cards. What is the starting and end point of your friend, if I may ask? As, even I will be attempting a SS 1600K sometime beginning of next year.

This is not a route recommended for a saddlesore. As you really don't want to be riding at night through UP, Bihar or West Bengal. If you are keen on a saddlesore from Kanpur or Lucknow, I would suggest to go towards Agra and switch to the Jaipur highway and travel in Rajasthan. Will be more fun at the same safer.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Take the right side lane near before Panagarh on the 4 lane highway only, that will lead you to the both way single road in Panagarh quite quickly, you can see many vehicles including buses taking the wrong lane...it saves a good amount of time.

                        starting point = kanpur - 0km
                        U-turn = durgapur - 834km
                        ending point = kanpur - 1668km

safety is the main problem. however we are thinking of the agra jaipur route too but traffic at agra can be pain.
have you traveled at that stretch?

You are planning to go do this as well? Awesome! Yes upto Agra the road is Makhan If you leave early enough in the morning you will avoid Agra traffic. As even in Agra you have to ride on the Highway, I have crossed through Agra at 9-10 in the morning on 4 occasions and each time it took me not more than 20 minutes. So don't fret about Agra. After you have ridden through Agra, continuing on towards Delhi, you will find a left turn for Bharatpur and Fatehpur Sikri. This is an empty two laner which connects the two NHs. Then it again becomes a 4 lane highway upto Bharatpur and beyond. After that you will have to ask some contact in Rajasthan. Never gone that far on that route

                          All the best mate!

EDIT: Here is a route. Slightly complicated, but the fastest roads that I can find in this part of the country. http://g.co/maps/w7456
