Default Around Meghalaya in 4 days with Nitin Manore

Day1 Pics: Trek to the Double Decker Living Root Bridge.

About the Double Decker Living Root Bridge:
Double Decker Living Root Bridge, a root bridge, is located in Tyrna village. Made using Indian Rubber Tree, also known as Ficus Elastica, this bridge is one of the popular attractions of the place. In addition, it is also considered as one of the unique examples of bioengineering. The two–tier bridge is more than 100 ft long, which have a carrying capacity of around 50 people at a time. Having Umshiang River flowing beneath the living root bridges, it has been estimated that these are around 500 to 600 years old.

More information at: Meghalaya villagers create 'living' bridges by training roots across a river | Mail Online

Distance from Shillong: 55kms approx, 2 hours on a motorcycle.

Location: Nongriat Village via Sohra (Cherrapunjee) and Tyrna Village.
It takes about 1 hour to 1.5 hour to reach the bridge rom Tyrna Village and about 2hours to climb back through those 4000 approx concrete and non-concrete steps. One can easily get directions from the Villagers. It is advisable to carry your own lunch packets and water as well as there are no dhaba/hotels in and around the Bridge. However, we were lucky enough for a family prepared lunch for us in such a short notice on request as well as payment.

Don't be misguided with the above pic which should actually be read as "Motorable - 1.63kms" and "Footpath - 3.00kms"

The natural Swimming pool, bluish in colour as seen in the above pic.

Having some fun around the bridge.

Mr. Misha, our friend and guide for the day, from Dhaka (Bangladesh)

@dan: you could have started a thread of all the 5-6 days instead of only one

Waiting for Day 4!

Do they allow you into Bangaldesh at Dawki?
Larger question - are you allowed to drive to Dacca in an Indian vehicle from Dawki or any of the border crossings in Meghalaya?
