Default Trip Planning:12 Cities for 12

Hi all,

I am planning for a countryride in 2012 on my Thunderbird TBTS.
I am planning to cover the following route during this ride:

Start from Mangalore->Banglore->Chennai->Hyderabad-->Bhubaneshwara->Kolkata->Lucknow->Delhi->Jaipur->Ahmedabad->Mumbai->Goa->Mangalore

Generic question: Any suggestion you have.

Specific Question/Query:
Road Condition, Suitable time to do this ride, tentative night halts.

No suggestions required on :
Whether me or bullet can do it or not? We are pretty sure that we are gonna do it and hence, we don't have any doubt on that front.

I shall keep onposting on this ride and preparations on this thread.

Cheers and best regards,
Sakshar

Why did you assume that people here will doubt your or your bike's ability to do it? I am sure you can do it provided you carry the right attitude and a well-maintained bike.

All the best.

Kolkatta>Lucknow>Delhi?

This is not the normal route. Stick to NH2. Do Kolkatta-Varanasi-Kanpur-Delhi.

And generally north india is best done somewhere in the second half of march.

Road condition on this section is generally fantastic. If you leave from Kolkata early morning then Kanpur can be your night halt, provided you are fine with riding long hard hours.

On the rest of the route I am sure others can help you better..

Cheers

Bengaluru to Chennai has awesome roads. But once in Chennai, you can probably follow the GQ and travel via Vijayawada --> Vishakapatnam --> Bhubaneshwar --> Kolkatta. Except for some parts in the Odisha-AP border, the NH-5 is supposed to be good too.
Coming down to Hyderabad from Chennai would be a waste of time and also, once you are in Vijayawada, the NH-9 to Hyderabad is probably the worst highway right now.

Thanks for the Info.

Actually, I am trying to cover certain cities I have in my mind and off course, Lucknow is one of them. Can you suggest a plan wherein I can stick to riding to Lucknow with minimum deviation from NH-2?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers.

Thanks for the Info. As mentioned earlier, I am looking forward to carry this ride through these cities and I am trying not to keep these destination changed. Can you please suggest any work-around to avoid this bad stretch of road without avoiding Hydrabad. I came to know about this bad stretch during my last ride from Manglaore to Kolkata.

One more question: Which all months are perfect for riding (taking into consideration the weather condition out there) in AP?

Thanks in advance.

Default Delhi-->Mangalore

Can anyone throw some lights on the route from Delhi to Mangalore. I require info on the road condition, time to cover the distance and the weather condition out there. Please suggest the appropriate season to cover that part.

Thanks in advance,
Sakshar

My 2 cents - Do a GQ instead of 12 cities 12 days

From Chennai, you can travel till a town called Chilakaluripet on the NH5, which is 380 kms away, and then take a diversion to Hyderabad via Nagarjunsagar or Miryalaguda, which will be a journey of around 260kms on good, but mostly single roads. From Hyderabad, you need to come back to Vijayawada which is around 270 kms on the horrible NH9. However, it is under construction and should be done by Feb-March. From Vijayawada, you can start back on the NH5 till Bhubaneshwar.
Climate in AP is no different from the one in Northern Karnataka. Summer starts at around 1st week of April till June first week and then the monsoon. Ongole, Guntur and Krishna (Vijayawada) districts are notorious for their hot and humid climate during the summers. Make sure you have sunglasses and lots of water when travelling through these places.
