Hello friends...My name is Arun Vijayan aka Phoenix. This is first time I’m actually writing something here on xbhp. Actually it’s my first time ever that I’m writing something
. I’m on this forum for quite some time but never took out time to be active. Pardon my lazy a**.. . But after reading all you guys out here I felt I should share my rides with all of you.I have been riding for over 3 years now. Previous owned Honda Shine, still owning a TVS Apache RTR 180 & I have been on decent rides for some time now.Recently got myself a Yamaha R15 V 2.0.I'm really interested in touring different places,so with a new machine under my a**...the itch to ride just didn't seem to go away.By the way formal intro of my bike to everyone.Friends meet Mystique, " The Mysterious Lady In Blue"...She is just 2 weeks old. And she has already done with 1000 kms. At this very moment she is getting her 1st service done!!!So I’m writing about a short ride with her to Kashid which I did so that I could complete the 1000 km landmark as soon as possible. Putting in some clicks for you guys.Enjoy.A short log coming up soon. And Moderator sir please approve the thread.... ![]() Last edited by Arun Vijayan; 12-24-2011 at 08:26 PM. |

Prologue:
“What are you waiting for? “ She whispered. “Try Me...” “It’s too early isn’t it...I think I will wait” “It’s been too long now...now the wait seems forever....” She grumbles.... “Patience my dear...patience...I promise I won’t keep you waiting...” She didn’t say anything ...She didn’t respond back...I waited for her to speak again...But she didn’t...I think she is mad at me...All I could hear now was the rhythmic beat of 150 cc heart as I was cruising on the Mulund-Airoli bridge at 60 kmph at 4.00 am in the morning...Now the conversation was not between me & my girlfriend .It was with my bike, Yamaha R 15 v 2...I have named her Mystique. I can understand why she is angry at me. It’s been almost a week now & I’m still cruising around at 60.She doesn’t understand it’s for her best. But I can’t lose myself in emotions & spoil the real fun. And fun she will be after she turns 1500 kms old... So I wait... It was a long wait to get her. I originally booked the V1 in early Feb 2011.And I wanted it in blue but I was told that there is a 4 month waiting period for the blue colour. So paid the booking amount & now the long wait begins. But fate had other plans for me. In May, heard about the new model of the R 15 coming up. Since nobody had any proper idea if the news was true, I was totally lost now. In the coming months that followed I cancelled the delivery of the bike not once but 5 times. But still no confirmed news about the bike. My patience was wearing out. My mind started playing games by putting in the idea of choosing something else. I’m glad I didn’t. Finally on Sept 6th the bike was officially launched. Met the showroom manager the very next day & was informed that I need to wait for another 3 months. Shit....Now I was really frustrated. But now I at least knew when I will get her. I didn’t have to wait that long. I got my bike on 25th November 2011.So after 8 months I was handed over the keys to my dream bike. ![]() To be honest with you guys, I have never ridden the V1.So I really didn’t have any idea as how the bike really is. I was worried, skeptical whether I will be able to handle her. I never went for the test ride because I wanted to ride my own bike & not some test ride mule. When I saw her in flesh I was in awe. She looked so beautiful, the afternoon sun bouncing off the rich blue colour of her body, the curves, and the lines. I’m in love again. Glided my hand over her curves, trying to feel what she has in store for me. And did she tell me anything???No not yet. Turned on the ignition & watched the white back lit of the console. Pressed the start button & closed my eyes. That’s when I first heard her. She sprung into life & purred like a cat. I had huge grin on my face. I knew I was gonna have fun with her. But I had to careful with her for the next 1500 kms. So held down my horses for some time. I belong to that unfortunate crowd of living beings for whom weekend offs are a luxury .Dragging my ass on a Sat or Sun to work while my other brethren are riding or lazing their a** off wakes the green-eyes monster inside me. (That explains why I never came for any G2G rides before). So every time I want to ride with my friends it’s a long process of applying leaves 2 weeks before hand-getting it approved from my boss-getting approval from my future bitter half( I said better didn’t I!!!)-spending time with her so that she doesn’t feel left out...Phew it’s really a long process. So whenever I can, I ride & I do make it a point to enjoy it. For me the distance doesn't matter. What matters is the ride, the conversations with your steed & the feeling being a free soul with no shackles holding you down.... The first week with her went so fast that I could not believe that I had already completed 600+ kms. And now I was almost at the end of second week. I really didn’t want to prolong the 1st service further. So with that in mind I decided to ride. I had an off on Friday so decided to just go about it & began preparing. But then the biggest question...ride but where to????.... |

8th December 2011.
The departure time was set to half past 6 in the morning the next day. Late in the evening got the things I will need for the ride. Bungee cords to tie up my bag which I borrowed from a friend, Shrimesh aka Neo. To capture her in pixels, the choice of weapon was the Olympus SP-600 UZ ...got it from another friend of mine Aniket Aka Baloo...I wanted a good camera because this was Mystique’s first photo shoot & wanted it to be perfect. Before going to sleep pampered her with a nice wash, lubed the chains, checked the tyre pressure. Rest everything looked good. Now the big question...where to ride. By now I had completed 725 kms to be exact. And I really didn’t want to exceed the 1000 km mark much lest it creates any problem for her. So decided to keep the ride short & under 300kms.Now had two options in my head, Lonavla or Kashid.Lonavla, to do a little test of her cornering capabilities. And Kashid because of course I love being near the sea. So now what to do. My mind was more in favour towards Kashid...but Lonavla looked promising too... Heads= Kashid...Tails =Lonavla... And.......Heads it is...Mystique, we are going to Kashid tomorrow morning. Said good bye to her & slept early. 9th December 2011. With the blaring music of “Psycho” blasting in my ears, I woke up at half past 5 in the morning. Packed the bag with essential stuff like. 1) Registration papers, PUC & Insurance 2) Tool kit (OEM) 3) Tool kit (assorted spanners, screw driver set & Allen keys) 3) Owner’s manual 4) Medical Kit (assorted strips of painkillers, antibiotics, cotton gauze & stuff for dressing) 4) Camera 5) Mini-tripod 6) Extra batteries 7) Water bottle. 8) Scrap cloth Cleaned & checked the riding gear. Cleaned the helmet visor. Did a final checklist again. And now it’s time to ride. Everyone in the house was sleeping so didn’t bother to wake them up. Pushed the bike out on the road. Checked the bungee cords & the bag again. With a slight click of the key to the right, the ignition system set in motion, the rev needle lighting up, going all the way up to the red line. The white back lit glowed in the early morning light & it looked so promising. A promise, which said the day, is going to be exciting & full of fun. At half past 6, turned on the start button, sprung her to life & with a downward motion on the gear shift, set her forward rolling on the road. Checked the fuel gauze, she was half –empty...It’s time for you to have your favourite poison. Filled her to the brim at the petrol bunk.Clicked the first photo of the day. All set to ride!!!! And at 7.45 am set out for the First Long ride with Mystique. Early mist had settled in, with the first sun rays peeping in & out of the dew. What a wonderful day to start your day!!!!. The traffic was thin with some multi axles zipping past you hurting your ego. I was still maintaining a healthy speed going all the way up to 5000 rpm. Also made a point to vary the speed from 40 to 65....and an occasional 70.Clicked a few photos in between. Early morning mist at Shil Phata road....or is it smog... In some time, took the left turn towards Kalamboli circle. The roads are very bad till a 1 km long stretch. I was riding very slowly, maybe at 10 or 15kmph max. The bike pulled out through the bad roads with such a good ease. I'm impressed!!! After sometime, the roads improved slightly with little or no bumpy patches on the tarmac. The suspension & the swing arm were really doing its job, taking care of the “beauty spots” on the roads without the stress on the rider. The best part was my back wasn’t hurting at all. Normally with the RTR 180 I do have a slight back ache. But this was something different; it just felt so at ease to ride her. Soon crossed the Kalamboli circle & took the J.N.P.T road. A few kms on the road took a small break & it was time to pixellate. She was looking even more beautiful in the early morning sun. Its time to move on & cover some miles. Halted at Palaspha Phata & took a break to satisfy my hunger pangs. Piping hot vada pav & cutting chai....Im loving it!!!!. Half empty or Half full.... To be continued..... |
